Checking the Windows Registry for installed Crystal Reports Version

Installshield should be able to do a file exists type search on the machine. Since your app relies on the RDC, I would change the search to craxdrt.dll Usually you can set the file you want to check for (App Search?) and even the depth (how many folders deep) on the drive you want to search...

    Exporting to Excel

XL in 85 = good, XL in 9 = not so good You are not going to see the same XL export in 9 as you do in 85. my experience is you can either accept it and modify reports to suit the excel (some bits anyway) or stick with 85. Cheers, SurfingGecko http://www.surfinggeckosoftware.com Home of...

    crw32.exe error when exiting

Also try reinstalling CR. It sounds as though the app is not set right and when the OS is letting go of the handle. Cheers, SurfingGecko http://www.surfinggeckosoftware.com Home of Crystal Ease

What steps should I follow when publishing or re-publishing reports ?

Can be tricky. Most time publishing should be fine, but there are times when you may need to run the report in the designer on the server itself just to make sure there is a connection to the source.(Verify Database etc.) I have seen cases where the report thinks the datasource has changed...

Crystal Enterprise Report not refreshing from URL request

Have a look at this doc for a command you can use to force the refresh of the report (see CONNECT) http://support.crystaldecisions.com/communityCS/TechnicalPapers/ce8_urlcommands.pdf Cheers, SurfingGecko http://www.surfinggeckosoftware.com Home of Crystal Ease

    Export problem

In order for the email export, you need to have a live MAPI session running. You may want to create one in your app rather than rely on Outlook Cheers, SurfingGecko http://www.surfinggeckosoftware.com Home of Crystal Ease

    CR8.5 runtime .exes and XP

my suggestion would be to change the .exe to run as a different OS (like win9x or 2k) Cheers, SurfingGecko http://www.surfinggeckosoftware.com Home of Crystal Ease

XP Crystal in state of DLL Hell or OCX Hell????

I do not see craxdrt9.dll in your list. You have craxddrt9.dll , but I hunch you do not need this in your app unless you are allowing for report creation in your app. The error is likely coming from the inability of the viewer to create the report object. The viewer is an activex control -...

Active Directory Logon takes >45 seconds on Crystal Enterprise

From my understanding with authentication forms such as AD or even LDAP, there is some additional work that needs to be done. This work is creating a graph of the mapped users/groups. This graph is maintained in cache and is redrawn frequently and also has a lifespan. I picture this as...

    1st Page of Report

Looks like something in the SDK - custom CSP app arena to cycle through your instances, load and print out the first page. I can see this being done, but it would take some work for sure... Cheers, SurfingGecko http://www.surfinggeckosoftware.com Home of Crystal Ease

How to refresh recurring schedules in CE9

no dice as synapse.. mentioned. Once a report is scheduled the parameters etc. are written to the system database (hence the reason why the updated report is still using the old info). You will need to delete the recurrence and reschedule... Cheers, SurfingGecko...

    Export issues

What's the CE version and have you tried to export from the CMC or ePortfolio to PDF? was this successful. Is CE patched up-to-date? Have you tried the URL export with another format? Testing in other areas will help you rule out where the issue lies. Cheers, SurfingGecko...

Defining name of the report or folder to place it

So far as I know, this can not be done as there is not command to set the filename. Here is a paper on the commands available -- http://support.crystaldecisions.com/communityCS/TechnicalPapers/ce8_urlcommands.pdf Cheers, SurfingGecko http://www.surfinggeckosoftware.com Home of Crystal Ease

    configurable SI_STARTTIME format???

This is a default setting I suspect to really avoid duplicate filenames. As for changing this, perhaps through the SDK in some way (custom CSP app), but so far as I know not from within the CMC Cheers, SurfingGecko http://www.surfinggeckosoftware.com Home of Crystal Ease

Licensing - using version 8 and 9 on same server

First up the cohabitation or side-by-side existence with the CR products was introduced in v9. This is beacuse v9 is now fully Unicode comliant whereas they were not before. It has nothing to do with COM and .NET CR9 is not .NET based. It does recognize if the framework is installed and if so...

    Executing Crystal Reports from VB6

what is the rest of your code to call this report? It looks like you are using the OCX control so will need to be specifying the report file name and the data connection information before action=1 The report without saved data will need to hit the database in order to bring any data back...

Change to new domain, rename server, & add patches..any warnings?

personally, I would avoid this if possible. Rather opt for a reinstall on the new server in the new domain. Mostly beacuse the machine name is used for naming all of the server and is stored in the APS database. I think you see where this is going... Renaming a CE system can be kind of upgly...

    MSI's in c:\winnt\installer folder

Right on. This is the registry key that Windows looks at to populate the Add/Remove Programs window. Expect the number to be the same across OS as it should be. Tthis is the package code assigned to the install package at creation time. Cheers, SurfingGecko...
