    a few things to note. is your card a 128 bit card and probably your cpu is slowing you down. upgrading your cpu will give you better performance.

    the answer to your first question is no. firewire and usb are different. secondly the files transfered from your mini dv will be huge. especially if you want any kind of quality. you can render different codecs later depending on the type of quality you want, this also takes a long time.

    make sure your agp aperture is set to 32mb in the cmos. this might help. for sure a 32mb card is going to do everything slower graphically then the 128.

    xp wont install on a hd very well if you dont clear the mbr. you need to use the dos command clearhdd 0 to do this. this could be your posting problem. the same thing happened to me updating from win98. you can get the command from the samsung site and add it to your boot floppy.

    dont use drivers newer then 3x.xx for the 440mx. the latest drivers are for the latest cards. i found my ti4200 didnt work very well with any drivers newer then 42.xx

    i ran halflife with a 4mb onboard video. hl is 4 years old. cod is new outta the box this month. i would suggest an upgrade. anykind of onboard vid and you could probably count your own frames in a game like cod.

    it may not be a video problem. did you wipe the mbr before upgrading? xp usually wont load past the logo screen with a previous os mbr on the hdd. just formatting wont do it.

    the agp slot sometimes share an irq with the pci slot closest to it. for this reason it should be the last pci slot you use.

    one thing i learnt while trying to fix this was that the later wdm drivers are for 8x agp. cant remember the drivers for 4x but they werent the latest. i also noticed that the irq's for the sblive and ti card were the same but wasnt sure if it was important, also dont know how to fix that.

    the original reason i bought this card was for my mini dv video capture. having had a great deal of difficulty with the composite video port/wdm drivers i resorted to a firewire card. the firewire card works great and is as fast. my suggestion is buy a firewire card and try that, they are cheap...

    well. its been a while and i kinda gave up, but. i was told the capture drivers must be installed first. so uninstall your vid drivers, reboot, install your capture drivers, reboot, then install your vid drivers. im told this will work but i never tried it.
