I have an AMD Athlon Thunderbird. Original CPU 850mhz. Inadequate cooling system from manufacturer (and an inexperienced user at the time)led to PC run hot on a regular basis until heatsink fan melted off and power supply died. Since replaced and another fan added to cool things down.

PC ran fine since then with occasional crashes. Recently, the monitor went blank and stopped booting up with the PC. This was accompanied by repeating short beeps.

I have since changed motherboard, CPU (discovered to be scorched), RAM, and video card. PC comes on, LED front panel lights up, all fans work, LED flashes on keyboard then remains dead, yet monitor does nothing at all though it works on another PC. At first I got repeated long beeps but there are no beeps now after several attempts to correct things. PC also cuts off if I change the SW1 switch to 133mhz or 166mhz. Will only maintain power at 100mhz. Clock ratio is set for default.

Current Specs: Gigabyte MB 4X/8X AGP(GA-7VAX/7VAXP), AMD Athlon CPU 950mhz, 256 DDR RAM, Verto Geforce MX420 64 gigs 4X AGP

Unable to load MB or Vid card drivers.

100 setting is for Duron or Athlons with 200fsb so 100 is correct for you.
133 is for Athlons and XP Athlons with 266fsb
166 is for the lastest 2.7 XP and above (might be for the 2.6+ as well) depending on model.
Reset cmos, start again, disconnect to bare minimum, reseat main power plug.
Just run with memory, CPU heatsink/fan, video card and PSU.
It should boot into bios from this state. Martin Replying helps further our knowledge, without comment leaves us wondering.

How do I reset the cmos? So far, I haven't been able to do anything once I've turned the system on.

You need to look in your motherboard manual. To reset the CMOS you have to turn off the power, change a jumper, change it back, then turn on the power again. The motherboard manual will tell you which jumper is for CMOS reset.

So far, no luck. Manual said to press <del> immediately during POST to enter standard BIOS CMOS setup. I am still not getting a display. Was this what you meant by reset or should I look for something different?

He meant something different that hitting the "Del" key. Yes, the "Del" key is used to access the BIOS while the computer is booting to configure motherboard hardware. The CMOS is known as EPROM (Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory). When you "reset" or change the CMOS you can do this and expect those changes to stay on this chip, even if there is no power supplied. Enough of the background.

What jennnn is getting at: You have to get your motherboard manual/user guide that came with your PC. Look for anything that say's "CMOS reset", "Reset BIOS", etc. You WILL have to open up your PC Case so that you can physically see the computer motherboard. Somewhere on the motherboard will be a "jumper". Typically, the jumper is removed and the computer is restarted (which wipes out the CMOS BIOS)...then you turn off the computer, replace the jumper, and restart (now you can configure the BIOS)...hope this helps.

If you cannot figure this out, I suggest you take your PC in for repair or get a computer savvy friend to look at your problem.

some gigabyte boards, like mine. 7avtxe are jumperless. removing the battery for a few minutes might do it.

Have you tries checking the battery? Normaly mainboards use 3V batteries. If the battery is flat the computer will not switch on as there is no voltage on the CMOS chip.

try removing the ram inside and replacing the one on the first slot.
