Broken plastic flags, mate. Check the upper feed assembly - there are three that often break and cause all sorts of jamming and error codes. Have a look in your service manual.
This relates to the rotation of the imaging drum in the printer. If the machine hasn't been serviced in a while or is being used in a high dust environment, remove the left cover (facing the printer), then pry off the clear plastic cover over the Y axis encoder disk (the assembly looks like a...
It's hanging when loading the internal diagnostic software. My thinking is that the formatter board should be replaced, but it could also be power control board related.
Marty's right - I'd bet on the power supply's built in "sacrifical" fuses. Can't really replace them, so you've got to get another power supply. The repair is a 10 minute job once you've got the part. Send me a message through TT if you need directions. You can get the part on eBay for...
You might check the continuity of the sensor with a multimeter, and also visually inspect the leads for any sort of damage. The sensor isn't that big of a deal to replace -- I've seen them get destroyed by the heat (perhaps this one has some internal damage).
As Marty said, there really isn't a designated "DN" model for your printer. If it's currently an N (Network), simply adding the DP firmware rom will activate the DP (DuPlex) features. Additionally, you could pick up a used DP mainboard and swap out your N mainboard, which may be cheaper as the...
Check the rapid release guide, it may be broken.
If the printer is crimping paper consistently, and there isn't anything disturbing the paper path (and it's a high page count unit, or one that has been moved around a lot), check the transfix assembly. Sometimes, it needs to be adjusted; but...
Use OEM or Media Sciences (if you have to). MS sells under a number of brands - Tally, Boise OP, to name a few. Don't buy OLD MS ink (off of eBay, for example) - they're continually updating the formula.
Deal with MS directly and, if their product ruins your print head, they'll replace it for...
...are basically the same printer (esp the 860/8200), it's highly unadvisable that you interchange parts such as the print head, ink loader, and *some* of the PCB's between models.
3) If the donor 8200 fails to boot, there's a slim chance that the formatter board you are thinking about putting...
Have you actually replaced the clutches? Phantom jamming with mixed results based on changing the resolution is usually a sign of a bad drum maintenance clutch, but it could also be software.

That sensor is flimsy, like most in this printer. You'll have to take it apart a good bit to get to it, but I suspect that the sensor has either disintegrated or popped out of it's socket. Take it apart and see.

You manipulate them by feeding some other kind of ink (in this case, a black ink stick) into the reservoir. It's not a good idea, and I don't recommend doing it. Sell your 840 (if that's what you're using) and get an older HP for your black and white documents - you'll be much better off in...
As Marty said: the printer will only bypass the cleaning cycle if the print head is above a certain temp threshold (100c?), otherwise, it'll do it's thing.
It sounds like you need a new drum maintenance clutch. How bad is the wear on the tabs? Are you getting ghosting on the prints? I've got...
The printer will work, but I wouldn't advise doing it because I think that the black ink may destroy the color jets. There's another post on the forum right now from a gent who bought one that is loaded up with black ink.
The great untold secret about these units is that they're expensive to...
Randy,
The print head thermistors are not easily serviceable; techs replace the print head.
Quite a bad sign that the previous owner filled it with black ink; I wouldn'tve touched it with a 10 foot pole. Is this an "Ebay" purchase?
