Any recommendations on ink. Are the knock off inks that you buy at a much cheaper price any good?

Does the 850 have a energy reduction mode?

There are 3rd party inks available for the Phaser printers but I do not reccommend them. As with other 3rd party inks used for ink jet prints these have cause significant printhead failures as well as other print quality issues. Some of the manufacturers warrant their ink from failures and I have encountered customers who have had the heads replaced by the manufacturers of theses inks. Bottom line is if you do not care if the head fails and do not mind jumping through the hoops to get them to replace the head then save some money and use them.

Use OEM or Media Sciences (if you have to). MS sells under a number of brands - Tally, Boise OP, to name a few. Don't buy OLD MS ink (off of eBay, for example) - they're continually updating the formula.

Deal with MS directly and, if their product ruins your print head, they'll replace it for free with overnight UPS shipping (hint: that's an even better deal than Xerox, who will charge you $600+ for parts/labor if you're out of warranty, regardless of what ink you're using).
