If that does not work I would guess the problem is either video card or RAM, most likely RAM with multiple beeps such as you describe. Try reseating the existing RAM first, if no go then swap it.
Also HP list the beep codes for various models on their support site...
What exactly do you mean by "it sees it etc"? Is the system configured to boot from a floppy disk? you can check this in Setup, usually accessed by hitting the delete key as the system first starts. It should be configured to boot from floppy first then cdrom and/or hdd after that. If this is...
Thanks uvguy, have never heard of or seen any documentation on that feature before, it is also present in V5.1 I now discover

I would say either the HDD or the motherboard controller is on the way out, probably the HDD. When you boot it is taking too long to recognize the drive and timing out.

Far as I know you cannot do this in Eudora, you can change the text colour from the toolbar but not the background, at least in V5 which I am still running.

There are 3rd party utilities which will do this for any program, unfortunately I do not have the name of one to hand, suggest you check the freeware/shareware sites for something suitable. I would be looking under "System Utilities" or similar headings.

I suspect you have a hardware failure of some sort, try removing / unplugging all cards and drives except video, on that mobo I would assume you are using the onboard anyway. If it boots then replace the items one at a time until you get the error. If it does not boot try reseating the RAM and...
Just to reinforce what grez has said... make absolutely sure you have the correct upgrade for your exact model of motherboard and you follow the instructions to the letter. An incorrectly performed flash or an attempt to flash with the wrong file can and probably will leave you with a completely...
Possibly your hard drive is getting tired, it is taking too long to spin up fro cold and the BIOS is not detecting it. This may also explain the scandisk running on every boot, you may have some bad sectors (I assume you are shutting Windows down correctly after each session, if not this will...
Drivers for the motherboard itself, they control all the various system devices you will find in Device Manager, the busses, USB, AGP, etc. Windows will use its own drivers if you do not load any others but many newer motherboards require their own drivers to work properly. Normally a cd is...
Do you have motherboard drivers installed, most newer motherboards need them. If you do not have them on CD you may be able to get them from the manufacturer's web site.

You would seem to have a problem in the BIOS. Try resetting it to default values, there should be a motherboard jumper for this or you can remove the battery for a few minutes. If this does not work a BIOS flash may rectify it, on the other hand it could kill the BIOS completely, rendering the...
It does not matter which OS you are running, you must do the flash from a DOS boot disk, the OS, in fact the whole hdd, is irrelevant.

1. I always use alcohol for cleaning off old paste, works for me
2. I only ever apply it to one surface
3. It will work straight away but its performance will improve over that period
3. It will go stiffer but can still be cleaned off

You could try booting to DOS, hit F8 just before Windows starts to load and select "Command Prompt Only", then type scanreg /restore and pick a date to restore to before the problem occurred.
