Powerpoint: Does custom animations from XP work in 2000 or 97?

Unfortunately, the newer animations don't convert down. You can disable the new animation features in PowerPoint (Tools>Options>Edit) when working on a presentation that will be going to older software. That'll still give you animation options, just not the ones the older programs can't work...

    PowerPoint Large files

Three things to try. The first is to turn off the fast saves on your computer. It saves all the changes in addition to the presentation and can really bloat your PowerPoint file up a lot. Tools>Options>Save tab. Uncheck Allow Fast Saves. Microsoft says that resaving it consolidates...

    Access vs. Excel

Also, the more data in Excel you have, the more likely you are to lose track of it. Image that you are using the spreadsheet to track open and closed suspenses. You are always going to have more closed ones than open--and at an ever increasing rate (given that all open ones eventually become...

Excel: Add Carriage Return in a Cell

In your Excel worksheet, you may need to add a carriage return to create a next line in a cell. But when you press the Enter key, Excel just goes to the next cell. To add a carriage return in the same cell, press the ALT key and the Enter key at the same time.

    Bulletproof Databases

Just thought this might be a good place to post methods of how to bulletproof your database and keep users from doing unintentional (or intentional) things to it. One is to go into Tools>Startup and turn off "Display Database Window." Users should never see the database window or use...

    Sabotoge? Determining who deleted what...

Database corruption can also cause it to seem to delete records. I had the experience of entering a record in, and Access not saving. I also had two archive queries (append/delete) that ran with the close of the form, and when the database was getting ready to corrupt, it would not append the...

FP2002 - text resizing- How can I format in MsoNormal?

MsoNormal occurs when you copy and paste text from another program such as Word. FP 2003 has an option which allows you clear out odd formatting from other programs. You are probably better off using standard fonts, like Times New Roman or Arial because everyone has those on their computer...

    Photo Gallery - Netscape Problem

Afraid not. It's incompatability issue in Netscape. FP is designed to work best with IE. You can change the browser compatability in FP, but all that would do was disable certain options that don't work in Netscape. Linda Adams http://www.hackman-adams.com http://www.david-hedison.com

    Turn off "Curly" Quotes

Word is automatically set by default to use "curly" or "smart" quotes. However, these quotes do not convert well in other programs like email or PDF files. To turn them off: Select TOOLS>AUTOCORRECT. Click the AUTOFORMAT AS YOU TYPE tab. In the Replace As You Type section, deselect...

Upgrade from Beta results in Error 2755

When I tried to install an Office 2003 upgrade I got an internal machine error, Error 2755. The only references to this error were associated with networks, and they did not apply. The cause of the problem: I was a beta tester. When I installed the beta, I was given the option of installing...

FP2K keeps moving links to local drive

If you just put it under My Webs that FrontPage created, that's just a folder, and you'll need to create a web (a subweb is actually a web within a web). When you open the site, the icon next to the site name should be a folder with a globe in it. If it's just a folder, then it's not a web or...

FP2K keeps moving links to local drive

In order to properly create a Web page, FrontPage needs the Web site saved on your computer to be in a subweb, not in normal folders. Normal folders causes it to link to your hard drive. as you've already seen. To fix it, go to FILE>NEW and choose subweb. Then import your Web site into the...

    FP 2002 image issues

Is your development copy of the site in a folder or a subweb? This makes a huge difference. FP treats a subweb like an enclosed entity, which makes the links work properly. But if the site is just in a folder, it may be hardcoding the links to your hard drive. A subweb is identified by a...

    Linking with and without frames

Frames are very confusing to do links to. Each page has the page containing the content, the frame (or frames, depending on how many use), and the overall page that includes the frames and the content page. You'll need to link to either the content page or the overall page--and that depends on...
