HI.
I get similar results on several small business Exchange 2003 servers that I manage.
I agree with "Justin2000" and Veritas that this is more an Exchange issue then BE.
The performance could be related to the Exchange server hardware - not the tape device but general hardware: CPU, Disks...
HI.
My suggestion is that you configure the overwrite protection settings, instead of erasing the tape using a scheduled command,
which could be a problem for example if the erase task succeeds but the backup operation does not start for some reason.
You can configure the Media Set for...
HI.
I'm experiencing the same problem from time to time - about once or twice a week:

HI.
Read this:
http://www.packetattack.com/frankenpix.html
Some notes:
The FLASH card is probably the main issue here.
It will also prevent you from upgrading to latest pix IOS.
The pix does not support the newer Intel NICs.
The NIC chipset must be: 82557/8/9
but should *NOT* be: 82550

HI.
> We recently got 3 PIX- 501's. I am trying to set it up in 3 locations all having a DSL or Cable internet facility
The cable/ADSL device might be also doing PAT which may add complexity and problems (2 NAT devices in a row: the pix and then the DSL router).
All of the following commands...
HI.
> The single "fixup protocol pptp 1723" command available in v6.3 looks to be best route for my situation.
I'm not sure if it supports more then a single PPTP tunnel - try to connect from several internal hosts at the same time to check.
This documents does not specify a limit...
Note:
The last link (Handling ICMP Pings with the PIX Firewall) is an old one using the obsolute "conduit" command.
However it also includes the newer "access-list" command.
You should use access-list commands, for example:
access-list fromoutside permit icmp any any eq...
HI.
> Please, help me out here. In my opinion, the PIX should let it through since I'm initiating from the inside?
You're logic is good, but the pix implementation of ICMP does not work like TCP so it is not working the same way.
What devices do you have between your PIX and the ISP...
HI.
Using PDM or the "filter" command, you can specify a rule not to block activex for specific ip addresses, then block all the other.
I did not try that but I think it would work.
An alternate and maybe better (more control) solution is to implement a proxy server for filterring...
HI.
As far as I know, only the pix 515 UR version can work in fail-over. If you have the restricted version then I think that you'll need to upgrade it.
Contact your Cisco dealer for details and your purchase opitons.

HI.
> would I put my IAS server on the 192, or on the 10 network
The IAS is normally on the internal network (or DMZ if you have one), so if internal network is 10.0.0.0 then IAS will have 10.0.0.X

By default, a VPN...
HI.
Yes, that way it should work.
You will need to use port forwarding because you have only a single IP address for both the pix outside interface and internal services (if you're going to publish them).
The following links will help you setting it up:
Using nat, global, static, conduit, and...
HI.
What is your Internet gateway device (firewall)?
How is it configurred?
I'm asking because your issue might be related to false PROXY ARP configuration at the firewall - then the firewall responds to ARP on behalf of the server which can cause such problems.
Try the following command on...
HI.
> I would try to start working on a setup using the 501 as a test, and using the Cisco 4.x client software.
Good. I think that this is the best choice.
For small business, I normally use Cisco VPN + XAUTH using their existing Win2000 server with IAS as a RADIUS server for user...
HI.
You should recheck the WINS configuration.
Does all servers use the new WINS server (including the WINS server itself)?
Use IPCONFIG /ALL on all servers to verify this.
Does all workstations use the new WINS server?
Can the remote BDC ping the WINS server and vice versa?
If not, then this...
HI.
At the pix, you should enable SNMP using either PDM or command line.
You can limit SNMP to specific host.
You can select POLL mode which is good enough for MRTG.
Regarding MRTG itself, follow the instructions:

> And at this time I haven't the possibility to use the CISCO Client so it's not an option.
Why?
I think that using Cisco VPN client is the best way.
Try posting your pix config (or part of it).
See the FAQ of this forum for safe posting.

HI.
These error nomaly relate to network disconnections.
It is normal if you have a laptop that is connecting/disconnecting.
It could be caused by a computer switching from standby to normal power.
It could be caused by networking devices: HUB/SWITCH, Cabling, NICs, or simply a bad network...
HI.
If you need to practice VPN and ACCESS-LIST rules, then yes, you can connect both pix outside interfaces to the same HUB/SWITCH with any ip addressing that you wish.
Bye
