Hi,
We have a site in our domain that have the event id 8003 flooding the system log. Error message is "The master browser has received a server announcement from the computer XXX that believes that it is the master browser for the domain on transport NetBT_N1001. The master browser is stopping or an election is being forced"
This is the only BDC in the domain that has this problem. Any ideas.
I have checked the technet for solution, rebooted the server but nothing seems to work.
Also all servers from that site are not longer visible in the Network Neighborhood.
Thanks.

Try Q135464 on the microsoft website. Also whichever PC is trying to become the master browser go to the following registry key:-
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Browser\Parameters\MaintainServerList.
If this has a value of Auto or Yes change to False unless it is a domain controller then leave settings at default

You are the man!! What ever that did to those PC's it's working now! I also checked some of the other PC's and they also have that setting set to Auto but none of them tried to be the master browser???
Wierd, but thanks anyway.
Regards,
GSC

Hi,
Funny thing how good things never last long enoguh! I have the same issue today, but this time it is some other PC's that think that they are the master browser now.
Is it really necessary to change the registry key on all machines on that site (600+) or does anybody know of a better work around?
Thanks,
GSC

Couple quick questions, if you don't mind...
1. Routers?
2. Is WINS configured in your DC?
3. Are you using Symantec Client Firewall on the client machine?
4. When you shut down and rebooted your network, did you start with the DC?
5. Netware Client? Try uninstalling it.

Not pulling at straws here, have checked my THS Logs and a few of these were found to be the problem, albeit in 2001.

HI.

These error nomaly relate to network disconnections.

It is normal if you have a laptop that is connecting/disconnecting.

It could be caused by a computer switching from standby to normal power.

It could be caused by networking devices: HUB/SWITCH, Cabling, NICs, or simply a bad network design (too many nodes and hops in single subnet).

Try to provide more details, including answers to what "compgirlfhredi" has asked.

Also describe workstations OS in use.
