You don't need backwards compatibility to logon from a NT member server to a W2K domain (the group is called 'Pre-Windows 2000 Compatible Access' by the way). This sounds like you have a DNS or WINS problem. Check your DNS srv-records and the ipconfig on the NTserver (can you ping the DC's?), to...
Yes there is. I always use Dumpsec (free, http://www.somarsoft.com/somarsoft_main.htm#DumpAcl). Very easy and configurable. Also very handy for documentation purposes. Hope this helps.
First of all check if the PDC emulator is properly registered in DNS. Check in _msdc/pdc/_tcp it the _ldap value points to the DC. And check if all the FSMO roles are properly configured with dumpfsmos.cmd (from Support Tools or Resource Kit, not sure).
Come on guys, you really shouldn't be imaging 2003 servers, especially not DC's. There's lots of easy-to-use scripting tools and deployment software available. If you have 500+ MS servers i presume you have a software deployment tool like RIS and/or SMS available?
To my knowledge it's not possible to manually update your clients (except for typing in the exact urls you can find in the logfiles maybe), you have to configure it throught group policies.

Well, you configure the client Automatic Updates and BITS-services using GPO's to pull it off the SUS server. So from Windows 2000 and up you can force the updates to the clients. There are ofcourse clients available for older systems. Only drawback is the lack of proper reporting, but overall...
Sure, no problem, Microsoft wasn't yet concerned about security when they build NT 4. Many linux-based bootdisks and bootcd's available. Check http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/bootdisk.html or for a very nice bootcd including NT Password editor check http://www.nu2.nu/bootcd/.

Create another user and make it a member of the Administrators group. Log in in as that user and delete the profile (not the account ofcourse) of administrator. You can't delete the profile if you're using it, that's why you got the error probably. Good luck!
cheers,
hanz.
Little bit more info is needed here. Where are you running the logonscript from? Is it specified in Group Policy or in the useraccount? Windows 98 can't read group policies, so you should fill in the right fields in AD Users & Computers and put the loginscript itself in the Netlogon folders...
Are you sure that they also receive the winmail.dat file or do they in fact see loads of garbage? Cause normally Outlook is the only mailclient that can handle winmail.dat files.
Sorry if I'm wild-guessing now ;-)
cheers,
hanz.
The X-Mailer value suggests this is a calendar/meeting request, is that correct? Check http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/wss/wss/_cdo_calendars_on_the_internet.asp for more info on this. I suggest you ask the other company to check their free/busy connectors and...
Try this: write down the GUID of the policy you want to copy, look it up in your SYSVOL directory on the DC, create an empty policy on the other server and copy the files (not the guid-folder itself ofcourse). Then check any references to network drives you made in the policy and you should be...
I can explain a whole lot of steps here, but you should first read this document: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=afad8426-572e-40f8-99da-eb7198f374c4&displaylang=en
It explains how you have to add a new server with E2K, configure it as a front-end server and set up all...
Hi Jack,
In fact, Symantec System Console IS a MMC-plugin, so my guess is that you have a corrupt shortcut. It should say something like
C:\WINNT\system32\mmc.exe /s "C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec System Center\Symantec System Center.msc"
But if you open SSC in MMC, you can...
