Have you logged in under the administrator login and pass and tryed to delete all users.....reboot....then recreate you user that has been corrupted?....You also said ur armed to the teeth with Anti Virus Utilities but it may be possible you have let a dll file or some sort of script into ur...
did you go into safe mode and remove all duplicate items from your device manager....maybe some dups in there cuase a lockup....sry not much help on this....
also make sure your subnet mask settings are the same not necessarily the ip's.....however your workgroup or domain must be the same in order for them to talk as well....i hope this extended info helps also...

ahhhhhh found the fix for ya buddy.....go into your intnet option located in your control panel or browser....under security do a custom level setting and down at the bottom it has a bubble for prompt for user name and password...that should fix them.....

go into your device manager....under your sound card...(maybe has a splash mark) ...go into the properties of it and there should be a resources tab.....take the check mark out of use auto config...manually hardset the irq of your choice...careful not to conflict with another device....this...
are you trying to switch tcp/ip settings on the fly?? not sure i understand the ?.....if that is the case and you wish to switch tcp/ip settings on the fly to swap accounts so to speak.,,,,just go into your tcp/ip settings and switch them while in windows...win2k does NOT require you to reboot...
you might want to try to run (sysedit) and remove anything having to do with it...also try and remove it from
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
it may be located there as well....you can also remove certain software from their to disable it from the startup...
create one account on the 2000 machine for example ::
username: user
password: shared
on each win98 machine during bootup at the windows login screen simply login as that user which u created on the 2000 machine....you will have complete access to that shared network source.....i had the same...
first things first did you check the internet options advanced tab to see if the java is enabled......if all is well, then try changing the permissions of that user to a higher level...that may do the trick....Hope this helps....Good Luck...
