Then it is a specific hardware (Hard disk) issue I suppose. There is no problem from Arcserve point of view.

Can you verify in the "Server Admin->Configuration->Database Engine" for the THROTTLE SPEED setting? It should be 10 by default.

As far as I know, Arcserve 7 Manager on a Windoes XP machine is not supported. If you get an opportunity to go through the release notes of Arcserve 7, it is very clearly mentioned that the Manager software can be installed on win98, winNT 4.0 and win2K workstations.

Firstly, my suggession is to have the tape scanned with the detailed log option.
This would give a fair idea about the amount of data backed up on the tape.
Also, did you compare the size reported in the activity log with the actual amount of data on the server?
