    Vista RC2-5744 ACPI

Thanks Bill. I just thought it strange that the older BIOS is acceptable and the newer one is not. I guess I'll have to annoy Gateway!

    Vista RC2-5744 ACPI

I put Vista Rc2-5744 on my 4 year old desktop with XP and Kanotix without a problem and am using it on this forum. I tried putting it on my 2 year old Gateway 3520GZ laptop with XP and Kanotix and it whined about the ACPI not being up to date. Excuse me! Both the desktop and laptop have no...

    Scheduled Tasks Can't Create Error

Of course follow Bills advice! My scheduled tasks has always presented that error BUT the tasks have always run and I've added and subtracted a bunch over the years and all I'm interested in is the end result.

    Urgent! Partitioning

Hey wolluf, what computer have you been hiding under. Linux distros have come with partitioning tools(qtparted) for quite awhile. Nothing fancy but does the job on any file system and I've never had a problem with it after many, many installs.

NO SYSTEM TRAY ICONS EXCEPT CLOCK

I would make sure you're "hide inactive icons" is off.

    IE7 beta goes public

Downloaded it just for giggles(I use Firefox). It's gone now. I don't need to waste my time trying to get rid of default search engines, wondering why even though when it comes up to about:blank it still phones home and a host of other "I don't need it" crap.

    scheduled tasks

Make sure you go over all the options such as "wake the computer" if it is shut down at the task time. I've also noted an oddity at times of the log saying it couldn't perform the task when in fact it has.

Log on to Windows on DISABLED Administrator account??

Safe mode administrator is the "true" one and only, administrator. All others are users with administrative rights. Google it for extensive explanation.

    Zone Alarm Settings

You won't be able to delete the logs unless you're in safe mode. You could also wipe out ZA and download another copy. You do know that ZA will initially decide what you need without any input from you. Of course you can simply make the changes you want in ZA.

    Creating Dial-up connection

Looks like you have a permissions problem. Are you running as an administrator? You can also go into safe mode and try from there.

Use Scheduled Task to automatically start PC

Ok people, have fun. All I know is I can shutdown, hibernate, whatever, my PC at any time of the day, and have it turn on for any amount of time and then shut down again, whatever amount of times per day from scheduled tasks.

Use Scheduled Task to automatically start PC

I must be mis-understanding the problem. I have used my PC as an alarm clock for years. I simply use the scheduled tasks to turn it on every morning at 6AM. I also always use hibernate so obviously that works. If you look at the task settings you will see various ways of starting, continuing...

    Hibernation Problem

You better be running ZoneAlarm. As mentioned, shut it down and if still a problem, hose ZoneAlarm and download a new copy.

    Registry Problem

This is not an answer but I have been getting that precise warning for years in the event viewer. I have not made a concentrated effort to find the cause since the computer runs flawlessly in any and all respects. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it

How the H*ll does WinXP's PING Know?

Putting aside how you came up with the IP, just what is it you're afraid of? The whole wide world knows your IP address and most certainly your router does.

    Format an Unformatted Partition

I strongly urge that you "read up" on partitioning in general. Most of what you said is in error. I'll let the rest of the forum members lead you in the correct direction.
