How do I tell my computer what photo software to use to view photos. I clicked on one program to do some editing on a photo, now it won't open photo attachment and I don't know what happened to the program that I had before. I have about 3 programs that came with my Dell. I looked around the control panel, but didn't find anything. Thanks, everyone. Larry

Right click, open with, pick or browse for whatever you want.

Tell Windows to use the application you wish to use for it.

Open a folder, Choose "Tools", then "Folder Options".
Click on the "File Types" tab.
Find the extension of your photo's (probably JPG).
Highlight your extension and click on the [Change] Button.
In the "Open With" window, choose your favorite photo editor in the list (my favorite is Irfan View).
If your application isn't in the list, click [browse] to locate it yourself.
Hit [OK], then [Close], and you're done.

Thanks, gx3 and PalmTest, this is a great forum. As I learn, hopefully, I'll be able to help someone too. You guys are great, thanks again. Larry

PalmTest, I did what you said and it changed the program to view the image (.jpg), but when I click on a photo, it opens the program (Picasa2) but the file type is still Paint Shop Pro Studio. It shows up in Picasa, but it has a red circle with an X in it right in the middle of the photo. All photos are now file type: Paint Shop Pro Studio. The file looks like this in Windows Explorer, File name: aaaa.jpg, Type: Paint Shop Pro Studio. How do I change the file type to one that can be viewed in Adobe Photo Shop, if I need to, or Picasa2 or any other program without changing every photo on my hard drive to only one type? Thanks, again. Larry

Another way around is adding your Photo tools to the "SendTo" folder.

Click the Startbutton,
point to "All programs",
point to your 1st Photo editing program,
rightclick on the program you want to use,
in the Popup-menu select "Copy".
(The startmenu collapses).

Rightclick the Startbutton,
select "Open",
Go up one level,
DoubleClick the "SendTo" folder (it is hidden).
Rightclick on an empty area,
select "Paste".
A shortcut of your program appears.

You now have added your Photo editing program to the SendTo context menu.
Repeat the above steps for every program you wish to use.
(Picasa/Photo shop/IrfanView/Paint/Word/Excel/Notepad/Wordpad/Printer)

Now browse to a Photo and rightclick on it.
Point to the "Send To" menuitem and select the program you want to use on this particular photo.

This way it is irrelevant to which program an extension (JPG) is registered. For what it is worth, you might even send a text file to Picasa.
