The more information that is posted about your hardware, and software, the easier it is too look at the problem.
> You just mentioned in your second post that the programs that you have had lockup and not fully install where on your hard drive. So, I am assuming that these are files that you...
Kento, very good and detailed answer.
I will only add this little tid-bit.
Before starting all of the uninstall, it might be wise to stop the "openme.exe" from loading at all, and you can do this by going into the MSINFO32, and the Startup menu.
Go to:
> START
> PROGRAMS

It isn't really a problem, so to speak, as everything you describe is normal. Your scanner software, and scanner, are "pinging" the computer, to make sure that you have a connection; everytime this happens, you interrupt the Scandisk, and it makes it start over.
So, you know what you...
Please post some information back please.
> Question: What is the ACTUAL free space on your HD ?
Go into Windows Explorer; look at your C drive; R click on the C drive; choose properties
That will show your C drive in a Pie Chart, and show you how much real open space you have.

Did you actually get this CBI Visual Basic program to load up on XP ?
( or is this an error when you are trying to just load the program from your CD-ROM ?)
If you did get it to load, is this error occurring when you are then trying to start the program.
Post more info.
I just installed the DIVX5 about 2 days ago, and I assure that I did NOT have to load that crap up with the DIVX5.
I did get the DivX Player 2.0 though. I downloaded this directly from the www.divx.com
A couple of tips on dumping ...... Gater crap.

MAXTOR
I build them for a living, and MAXTOR and IBM's are the only HD's I use.
They both have great service, and they don't haggle.
If the choice is WD or MAXTOR, it isn't really a choice.
Cocoa2424
I would repost this problem of yours, in the Windows 98 /95 forum,,,,, (or if there is an IE forum).
You might want to combine the information that you have supplied in both posts, into one post, and give that a shot.
I would really like to know how to fix that. It is...

You say:
"am looking at a coolermaster heat pipe? will this be a good move? i understand copper sinks offer better performance."
Cooler master fans have been very dependable for me, for years, and AMD uses them on their Retail versions of their CPU,s so that in itself...
Ok.
I will Talk the Walk:
I can, and do, have any kind of computer that I want. (since I build them for a living).
Currently, I own a Pentium 4 2 GHz Northwood.
* MAINBOARD * ASUS P4T-E Intel i850 / RAMBUS
* AMD ATHLON *

Why buy LAST YEARS technology ?
I have been installing the GeForce4 MX 440's in customers computers lately, and I have had a chance to run them through the paces...... and test them hands on.

* GeForce 3 Pro (full version, the card below...
Well, you could post more information about your system.
What OS are you trying this with ?
> Last: It is very possible that you didn't get a clean install........... of the drivers.
Did you also install a newer DirectX version, like 7 or 8.1 ???
( Hopefully also, you got the last...
The difference in price isn't that much, say $20 - $30 to go from a 5400 RPM to a 7200 RPM.
** The difference is HUGE, in overall system performance if you want a high-performance computer, ESPCCIALLY in todays games (the high end 2001 / 2002 games), and the upcoming games.
I would...
I guess, my suggestion is, to take it to a professional.
Have the CMOS reset.
Have the BIOS flashed to the newest version. *** UPDATE **
You have the 1009 - which Asus says is the latest version for the CUSL2-C.
*** NEW BATTERY in the mainboard. This effectively resets the CMOS settings...
TOO HOT !
Too darn hot. I set up Athlons all the time, and the XP 1800+ version,,,,,,, (not overclocking, except maybe by 3%), and after running them HARD, using 3DMardk 2000 for a couple of hours I check the temp.
I get from F 98.5% - about 112% F.
Good fans (noisy, but they work hard)...
It could be your BIOS is out of date, and will NOT recognize the new Athlon XP CPU.
You may also be having an issue with the 512 MB DDR RAM module, maybe it is not working in conjunction with the Mainboard BIOS.

> Compare that to the...
In Windows, do you possibly have the resolution set to high for the monitor ?
How about the refresh rate ?
What happens, in regular Windows, (after setting these in safe mode) when you boot up using,,,,,,,,,,,
800x16 and 256 colors ?
> To repeat from above.
> Just disable the 2 COMM Ports in BIOS.
> Reboot
> Turn off, and add your new hardware, the MODEM / NIC.
See what happens. You should be fine. IRQ 9 will share it just fine, if something doesn't switch to IRQ 3 or 4.
