there is one side issue that I know of and it deals with the default security on certain folders....maybe this was fixed in XP, but I know for sure it occurred in W2K.
For instance, if you installed the OS with the file system as NTFS everything was fine...the appropriate permissions were set...

I am guessing that you ommitted the actual PID? If not, then yes it is invalid.
If you are actually using a valid PID, where did the source files come from...meaning, did the source come from the same CD that the PID is for?? There are differences in the PID's depending on the CD....upgrade...

don't know why it may have stopped working, however it can be tricky trying to reinstall..USB printer installations are notorious for sticking to the documented procedures for installation.
The most important being not to attach the printer until the drivers are installed or you are instructed...
