Hi there all, I am using MS Flight simulator 2000, running on Win 2k, and the program ( not my aircraft)keeps crashing at Random times. I also Use Flight sim 98, and dont have this problem. The message I get from Win 2k is "FS2000.exe has caused errors and will be closed by windows, you will need to retart the program...An error log has been created" Would some kind person please tell me where I can find this "error log" so I can see whats happnin and whats causing it. I have minimum apps running, so I really need to find out, otherwise I'm going to pull out all my hair and punch my screen. I have looked at the event viewer in admin tools, but there is just nothing that is listed any where near the time of the crash. many thanks for any help people...Chris Warmest regards, Chris

Since this is a user mode crash or error then it is likely being trapped by Dr Watson...MS JIT(Just in Time) debugger.

A relatively easy way to find the log is to do the following:

Right click on My Computer and select Manage.
Highlight the System Information folder under System Tools
There should now be a "Tools" pull-down menu.
Click Tools, Windows, and select Dr Watson.

The screen will indicate the error conditions..you can highlight each one and select view to see the log file.
The actual log file itself is located...by default, at:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\DrWatson

Thanks Doug for your reply. I went to the location u suggested, and it has recorded the last 10 dumps ok, but the problem is the 10 windows recorded are dated from 7/10/01 to 15/10/01. Mmmm my calender on my PC says 26/1/02. Now i'm worried...Cheers Chris Warmest regards, Chris

There's that magic word 'DELL' again,:-( Anyway the error log you are looking for is the Event Viewer. Computer Management|System Tools|Event Viewer probably the Application log will have all you need but you may have to look at the System log for the same time to get the full picture.
A lot a problems with Dell machines can be reduced by throwing away the restore discs and installing properly (FDISK the HD first).
I have just found a foolproof way to make my companies Dell Dimension 500 (we only have the one (inherited) out of 120+ machines) run perfectly (there's a first time for everthing). If you take out all the cards, memory & CPU and clean the connectors with Isopropyl, remove the CD, HD & Floppy then take the case and MB throw that in the skip!:-D then fit the cards etc into a new case with a new MB and install Win2k and any apps you need and Hey Presto! problem solved.:)

Chris.

Hi there, thanks for your reply. I have had a look in the event view at the time of the crash, and there is no entrys anywhere near the time it happened. I have found the Dr Watson error log, and it was recorded there as an access violation, so just looking for a way to decypher the (useless to me) information Cheers Chris Warmest regards, Chris
