Sure, you can take it right off, do your oil thing and put it back. Better yet, just put some duct tape in place of the sticker. The only thing, you should keep the sticker if your card is still within warranty, you never know.
Or if you think you might sell the card in the near future.

Great, i took a chance saying it twice, but it was important you check it out. Glad you got it going and got your data!!
Should i point out that you can give someone a star by clicking on the thank so and so for this valuable post?
See where the purple star is.
Good advice + great people =...
yes, remove the sticker and oil in there. Maybe get some graphite powder during the week to do an even better job, in my opinion. Pull the Ati label back but not off, put your oil in there, put label back on and perhaps best to use a small bit of duct tape to secure around the edges and hold the...
One other thing, look for a part number other than the one you have, it may be found on the drive, the manual, the box it came in, like that.

I had a similar model, the ND-1000A. Nec and Verbatim seem to make the same unit, so you may try over at the Verbatim site:
http://www.verbatim.com/
I know it helped me at the time and i dont know if you know about the verbatim site, sorry if its not of any use to you. I know i had to root...
To do it manually, first make a backup of your registry. Put the backup on a floppy or cdr or cdrw.
Then open it and move mouse pointer to shadow the first folder in the registry.
Then use the find feature and use the word "nero". It will search one entry at a time. As long as it says neo you...
Well, we need to make sure you arent going to waste $50!
So, what is the software you are using? Nero, roxio ?
When you uninstalled the software did you do a manual or software program to delete references to this software in your registry? The reason i ask is that i have found, especially with...
katman104, its best you start your own thread.
Its much easier for all of us to try and help both you and the other person.

First off, I am not trying to undermine paparazi's post at all. But,a fan in that condition can be repaired. All you need is some light oil, like sewing machine oil, and some graphite powder. You can get both of these items at either an auto store, hardware store, or walmart type store.
Just...
A lot of time you will find references to certain programs in your msconfig as electronicsfreak has pointed out.
These references belong to certain programs that believe they must run every time your pc is started. Not true, of course.
qttask.exe is one good example. It belongs to quicktime...
It certainly could very well be a faulty unit.
Remember that the parts that make up these items are made in countries where wages are a dollar a day. They are made cheaply and put together cheaply. This is not a knock of any country either.
I bet i costs about a dollar to make a cd reader these...
If the cd drive was a slave then the dvd burner has to be a slave as well. Bit it wouldnt have worked right off the bat if you had it wrong, so i suspect the dvd burner died on you, but you can likely get it replaced under warranty.
Let us know how you make out with this.
Good advice + great...
paparazi, i agree with you 100%, I believe the via chipset boards are faster, etc.
Its just that hobbytech seems to want that motherboard, even to the point of getting new caps. Thats the only reason i was pointing to that mobo.
I do like them because you get a lot of features for a low price...
thanks, paparazi.
One thing i found, though, was that i was having to re-oil the offending fan too often. However, this was mostly those small fans that come with ide removables. The oil just didnt last long. Thats when i started adding the graphite powder along with the oil. Well, that was the...
