DIGITAL CAMERA/WIN 98 ISSUE

I currently have Win 98 as my OS and regardless of what type of digital camera I plug into my USB ports I am not able to see the camera. I have tried loading the camera software and drivers that come with the kit for Win 98 but it still is not able to see the camera when plugged in to the pc. Any ideas on how to resolve this, thanks.

Until the machine sees the camera plugged into the USB while the machine is on you must suspect that the USB is at fault.
Any flags in the mangler?
