If your post appeared in any other forum, we'd have to let this slide. But since it is here in the linguistically illustrious Making an Impression forum, I believe that we must draw a distinction between:


They look like upside-down helicopter fans. -- meaning, "fans for upside-down helicopters",

versus what I believe is your intention:

They look like upside-down-helicopter fans. -- meaning, "the fans have the appearance of an upside-down helicopter".

Am I correct?

You know, I've never seen an upside-down helicopter but I believe the orientation of an upside-down-helicopter fan would be the same as a fan for an upside-down helicopter. I get your meaning, though. ;-)

Cool! I had always been told that was impossible and the helicopter loses upward thrust in that position and the blades tend to flex uncontrollably. Of course, that was back in the 70's.

Radio control helicopters can do some insane aerobatics that no "real" helicopter could do. Inverted flight is pretty common. The blades can be given both a positive and negative angle of attack, so it can produce thrust both up and down in relationship to the heli.

Two brothers (with excellent senses of humor) here in the Salt Lake City area, both went to medical school. One became a psychiatrist, the other a proctologist.
