Hi,
Is there enough interest to start a thread on this topic?

To start, some of my favorites are:

James,

Cool looking fans !

If your post appeared in any other forum, we'd have to let this slide. But since it is here in the linguistically illustrious Making an Impression forum, I believe that we must draw a distinction between:

They look like upside-down helicopter fans. -- meaning, "fans for upside-down helicopters",

versus what I believe is your intention:

They look like upside-down-helicopter fans. -- meaning, "the fans have the appearance of an upside-down helicopter".

Am I correct?

You know, I've never seen an upside-down helicopter but I believe the orientation of an upside-down-helicopter fan would be the same as a fan for an upside-down helicopter. [blush] I get your meaning, though. ;-)

Cool! I had always been told that was impossible and the helicopter loses upward thrust in that position and the blades tend to flex uncontrollably. Of course, that was back in the 70's.

Radio control helicopters can do some insane aerobatics that no "real" helicopter could do. Inverted flight is pretty common. The blades can be given both a positive and negative angle of attack, so it can produce thrust both up and down in relationship to the heli.

Here's a good example of what they can do...

But why on earth (or in the sky for that matter) would you want a fan in a helicopter - upside down OR right side up???

Not really a business but a political sign. In Virginia, we have a Robert Hurt running for congress. His signs can be inferred as a political statement as much as anything else: HURT U.S. Congress.

I always thought it a stroke of marketing genius for Specsavers opticians to sponsor the Scottish Premier Football League, given fans' propensity to hurl imprecations suggesting the referee's eyesight might not be exactly 20/20.

Two brothers (with excellent senses of humor) here in the Salt Lake City area, both went to medical school. One became a psychiatrist, the other a proctologist.

They went into practice together and wanted to come up with a clever slogan for their "shingle". They ran a little contest for people to make motto suggestions. The top finishers:

3rd Place: Nuts and Butts
2nd Place: Heads and Tails
1st Place: Odds and Ends
