Are you using WebJetAdmin to configure the printer? A very useful utility for working on printers from individual workstations. Might offer some clues as to wht you're encountering. Try it.
okay, here's a question for you. Are you able to use other USB devices on your Win98 machine? And have you tried printing through the parallel cable/port? Just curious.
By the way, if your computer can handle it, I'd make the upgrade to Win XP. The machine would have to be fairly new (less than...
have you used the newer version of WebJetAdmin to set up your printer? I work with it exclusively in our office because it helps me configure the printer no matter where I am on the LAN.
Had alot of trouble using NT 4 for printer administration. I recommend moving to Win 2000 or XP Pro if...
have you checked to see if you're using a good bi-directional cable (parallel) or are you using USB for this? Also check HP site to make sure you have the latest driver for your printer. There may be more than one driver option (PS or not) so try both.
two things . . .make sure you have the latest driver for the printer, then make sure you have the option of printing in the computer memory, not just the printer memory. In many HP printers and plotters, you have the option of using the computer memory for printing if the printer doesn't have...
well, it would be in the printer options for setup. I have a Xerox Docucenter and it's in the control panel/printers/properties for the printer. Check with HP website to see if that option is available for the 5
this is gonna sound wierd, but do you have latest software installed on all workstations? I have had some problems with 8550 on netowrk with individuals in the network having old software driver installed. Newest version solved problems (things like paper size, duplexing, etc.) One thing I also...
finally. . .I got it, thanks to your help. I had to go in and install the shared network printer as a local printer, then go into the properties and map the port address. Works great. What a trick, and I never would have made it without you. Thanks!
I have an HP 842C attached to a Win XP Home machine. The XP is on a wifi network, with a laptop running XP Pro. I also have a Win98 hardwired into the network. Both XP machines can share printers no problem. Issue is when I try to install the printer and print from the Win98 machine. Network...
8550N is a pricey printer, and you don't want to munk it up if you can aviod it. Did you use an HP part or an aftermarket?
Go to the HP site and look for documentation there. They probably have all the instructions online. I'd do that before you run it too much.
save your hair! try downloading the newest driver sets from HP. I've noticed that they have made MAJOR changes to the way network printers are being managed, including paper tray selection and defaults. I have solved alot of problems by using THE absolute newest driver/software sets. If you can...
make sure your drivers are up to date, download latest from HP site. Crazy as it sounds, I've solved many print quality problems just by replacing drivers. Also, the newer stuff tends to have alot of calibration and color correction tools. Give it a shot and see. Happy Holidays!
don't suppose a copy/paste format would be of much help, since it adds one step? Can you save DOS files in a Windows-friendly format (ASCII Text) or something?
sounds like a phone call to HP is in order. OR. . .you might call your service organization (or Comark,Staples) to find out how they obtain service certification for their techs.
Gonna be tough because they change things so frequently. Parts, drivers, models. . .never-ending updates. Best wishes...
think you miht be printing with the Postscript driver instead of the regular driver. Had the same problem with a Laserjet 5MP. XP tends to load the Postscript driver for any detected printer by default. Check the HP site again for the PCL5 driver and if that doesn't work, try a website like...
didn't know the V40 could scan 35mm. Do you have the right attachment? Wife has one in home office, and it doesn't appear to have the right parts (not a flat-bed scanner). Do you have access to another HP scanner? I'd go that route, since the things are so cheap now. I bought a Scanjet 3300C...
I've got a 842C running through an XP machine, USB port. Works fine on the Main machine, and others in the LAN can see it. I have an older GW PC running Win98 that sees the 842, but when I send a print job, it won't connect. No test page, nothing. I've downloaded newest drivers, no help. Any ideas?
have an HP 340C compact printer, works pretty good. Check it out at the HP site or at some place like Staples, BestBuy.
They've been around a while, may have newer version, but good printer, can fit in a laptop case.
