Hi,
A user in the office and in fact all users who use this networked printer are having various problems when trying to select a tray to print to on a HPlaserjet 8150.
The trays are set up correctly. Tray one is manual feed, tray 2 contains letterheaded paper and tray 3 contains plain paper.
When the user sends the job to the printer and wants to print on letter head he selects print, options paper source, tray 2, letterhead. The page set up is even set to leter head, but for some reason it always goes to tray 3 and on plain paper. I have tried everything I can think of here.
When printing the manual tray is open and it is set to cassete.
Any help of links to help would be greatly appreciated as I am tearing my hair out here.

save your hair! try downloading the newest driver sets from HP. I've noticed that they have made MAJOR changes to the way network printers are being managed, including paper tray selection and defaults. I have solved alot of problems by using THE absolute newest driver/software sets. If you can download HP's network printer administration tool, it's great to have. Load it on your main PC and you can configure every network printer from one machine. I think it's called HP WebAdmin software.
Happy Holidays!

Hi! sounds as if the problem that you are having may be coming from the application that you are using, try going to file -> page set up in the application and setting the correct paper size and source in here.

In the driver itself, set they trays and paper types up as autoselect / autoselect.

An application will overwrite the driver at all times

Although an application will overwrite the driver at all times, does anyone know of a way this can be reversed so that the driver keeps its settings no matter what the application says. We set up our printers through jet admin and all is fine, until someone prints an email through Outlook, that has got a different page size (usually Letter instead of A4)and it changes the driver page setup to letter, we then have to manually reset it.

Easiest thing is to configure on the printer what type of paper and size is in what tray, and then on the server if any, set the papersource, size and type to autoselect. Àvoind using the NT forms select option. It will most probably just cause a lot of trouble !
The client would then only need to chose papertype, and the printer would figure itself where to pick the right paper from.

Although it is always preferable to leave application settings at default and use the print driver to adjust tray
settings. You might try this:-

Open an application click file/print
click the options button
Make sure the default tray is set to USE PRINTER SETTINGS

Also there is a tick box for letter to A4 resizing.

Hope this helps
