I've installed 2000 proffessional on laptops and desktops and I have found when NTFS is used I've had all kinds of problems including hangups.
Re formatted to FAT32 and installed and system runs fine.
Have you setup the forward and reverse lookups in DNS?
Is there a group policy running which is effecting your login script?
Are you using a profiles, to set desktops etc?
If you have installed office currectly as an administrator, you can the go into documants and settings, administrator and copy the shortcuts from the start menu within there and paste them into the folder all users start menu.

Are u using a server?
If you are and thr policies are controlling the down loading of Office the when you first setup a user and then exit that logon it will save as a profile and the who ever logs in will not have an issue under that user name.
Use ghost, connect your new HD to the secondary IDE(the one your cd should be connected to).
Enter BIOS and ensure that the system picks it up.
Boot up from the ghost boot disk you should have created and image disk to disk, make sure that the correct HD is choosen for source.
Install printer on main PC, share the printer and ensure security is setup for evreyone.
Go to Add Printers and go through network find the printer required and install, you may need certain files on CD or Folder on local PC.
