Freestone you are an absolute star!!! After following your instructions, my laptop installed 109 updates!! Most of which were security fixes. It must mean Windows is as water tight as a colander!!
Thanks for solving something that was doing my head in. It is really appreciated.
You could try the following (If you are familiar with DOS)
1) Look on the HD for a file called mouse.com
2) Edit the config.sys file to tell the computer where the file is located.
The file MSGR3FR.dll is the French Grammar check. It needs to be installed/removed through Word 2002 setup. Putting the file in the directory doesn't solve the problem.
What OS are you using? If you are running Win98 SE it may not see all the extra RAM that you have.
Are you sure that there is not a problem with your Monitor?
Have you remembered to upgrade you cooling system? Your system may be overheating causing the blue screens
First suggestion, would...
Try using the following commands in the Run command:
tracert www.microsoft.com
ping www.microsoft.com
(It doesn't have to be microsoft, any website will do)
This will tell you a report back if you are connecting to the internet.
Correct, Zeitghost, I had to "activate" the product. It gave me a year's free upgrades. I think they did it because they found out that were losing money on the old Norton AV because if you uninstalled and then reinstalled it you were able to have a further free year!!
I am running both Norton AV and Firewall. I was running Norton AV 2001 with updates. I added Firewall and then installed Norton AV 2004 Upgrade. On installing the upgrade I had to remove Norton AV 2001 before proceeding. I haven't had your problem.
How are you are editing your registry...
Occasionally, I have had this problem where Windows loads it's default driver for screen resolution. Check that it is using the correct driver and reset the screen resolution.
I would suggest as a first step, to delete the printer, re-boot and then re-install it.
Then open up a word document and press print preview and look if you see what is to be printed.
If you do, then check if the printer goes through the correct sequence before it prints the page.
Have a look at msconfig for programs that are being loaded at the start. Look in the start-up for something that shouldn't be there.
Run up-to-date AV and Spybot. It could be a virus or spyware causing your problem.
If still a problem use Hijackthis (downloadable) and post the log created...
Win98 does not need config.sys and autoexec.bat to start. You can rename them from the c prompt to, say, config.old and autoexec.old and reboot.
windows should start up.
First things.
Get your AV up-to-date
Check for a virus
Run updated Spybot
Run updated Ad-Aware
If this doesn't solve your problem
Run Hijackthis and post the log on this site.
