apply a logon or startup script to the site, something along the lines of:
net stop "windows firewall/internet connection sharing (ICS)"
this way the firewall is disabled whilst the user is logged in at your site that should be secure, however when at home the firewall will still run.

Hi There AntunB,
there r a few key points to know about here, as mentioned both methods work, however the advised method is using software deployment in group policy, this way you have several methods of selecting who actually recieves the policy.
1. In GPO software deployment ensure you...
Hi both,
this sounds interesting, i'm sure u could authenticate to a mixed mode domain using WINS and NTLMv2. Im sure the original domain could have been set up without SRV records, i have first hand experience of this when acidentally not setting the DC to register it's own connection but you...
Hi,
Your mail server should not reside in the dmz, only the smpt redirector, this does not actually have to be exchange! Servers hosted by the DMZ should not be a member of your domain either, either a seperate domain (no trusts) or workgroups.

Thanks 'CTOAWN',
I'm thinking thats about as granular as we need to go, i've used the free version of SUS extensively, how du i get to the 2003 version of SUS?
Thanks
Thanks for the reply 'CTOAWN', i just about managed to get that far, it's more the task of synchronising with security patches with MS then in a granular fashion deciding with security updates to apply to which servers ie
Patch 1234 to Server 1
IIS patch 345 to IIS Server 1
MDAC Patch 2345 to...

hi,
first of all try the easiest remedy, stop and start the dfs and ntfrs services by dropping into DNS and typing:
net stop ntfrs
net start ntfrs
then do the same for the dfs service. Check DNS name resolution also, if u have just promoted your server to a DC replication will not occur...
M8,
apols if this is wide of the makr but ensure you have the 'Register this connection' in DNS, ensure your dns server is pointed to itself as a primary and secondary, registering the connection ensures the services hosted by your server and advertised and resource/srv records. If your...

Hello,

We have a problem with our SUS SP1, my clients stll attempt to download from the external Microsoft Servers, i have configured my registry via admin template in GPOs and these have applied but apparently fail to effect the attempted download location.
I noted that under vroot on the server the...
Chaps, why bother logging on at all? if using microsoft file sharing (which most of us are) over the network simply browse to \\hostname\c$ on the effected workstation/server and replace userenv.dll and userinit.exe with files from a healthy donor and hey presto. didn't even require a re-boot...
