Crashes seemed to be caused by Maxtor !

Thanks Mainegeek and Leedsit for your suggestions. The double partition idea does not fit my plans for using the drive, so I have already taken a look at Maxtors site and downloaded their MaxBlast4 software for installoing etc. I will try it out later in the week. I will post the results here...

Duplex Printing Comes out Upside Down

My technical terms may be a bit off, but I think this is what you want. When you choose "Print" and Indesign's print dialogue comes up....choose "Setup" (down on the bottom row)- A warning box comes up....click OK! When you come to the printer dialog box there may be a tab for "Layout". Go there...

    fit frame to (bigger) contents

I think the reason is due to the fact that your text has been predefined as a certain size (maybe you are using styles). Logically the text wants to remain the size you have predefined. The only way to change the text size to fit the bigger frame would be to change the text to outlines first.

get location metadata into web photo gallery

I think that you have a better chance of an answer to these questions on one of the other Forums. E.g. Adobe Photoshop Forum or Macromedia Dreamweaver etc...

    Cannot open the file...

It is still as you say Jimoblak. Photoshop creates the Photo Gallery then it will usually ask your web-browser to open the result so you can see if it is functioning correctly. Why it would "ask" InDesign to open the result is a mystery to me. If Pmover was on Windows I would make a wild guess...

    InDesign looses Scandinavian characters

I would guess that the problem is not with InDesign, but with the computer's OS and if the "inmatningsspråk" and "tangentbordslayout" is on S for Swedish. (I don't know if the Swedish letters came out in my quotes) I am using Windows 2000 Pro (Swedish version) on my computer here in Japan. I can...

    Japanese Fonts

You can send a copy of the file to me at drbtartan@ybb.ne.jp I still have PM installed here...even though I don't use it much these days. So I can see what happens when I try and open it. Even if you can see it onscreen...it is not certain that your printer is downloading the font that is...

How can I invert the page numbering to suit japanese binding?

Has your customer actually said that they want the numbering to begin from the back page? I can tell you that although most books and newspapers begin from the "back", most of the product catalogues I have seen here actually begin from the "front" with the same numbering system as in the West...

    Japanese Fonts

I looked at my Japanese fonts on my "western" windows using Adobe Type Manager 4.1 and I could see the names of both TrueType and Adobe Type1 fonts. Sometimes the name was written in Japanese. By the way Japanese True Type Fonts have a ".ttc" suffix on a PC. If the name is in Japanese do a...

    Japanese Fonts

I was using Pagemaker 6.5 and later 7 when I lived in Europe. After I moved here to Japan I tried to use PM with Microsoft IME and also installed Japanese bought fonts...but Pagemaker had trouble working with Japanese fonts on a "western" version of Windows. Later I upgraded a second...

    Pasting/Importing Graphics

Hello Horqua, Sometimes it is difficult to see the wood for the trees. If you have a working system that does what you want by using Pagemaker. Why change it? I use mainly InDesign nowadays, but I have kept my Pagemaker on the computer - just in case. I will probably uninstall it later on - but...

Indesign laserjet printing problems on network printer

When you have the "Print" dialogue window up. Click the "Graphics" button and make sure you have the correct settings for FONTS Download (probably should have "complete") Also if you have "ticked" the "download PPD fonts" or not, can have an...

I am in trouble with turkish characters

I have heard of many people who want to use text from Word in Indesign, but I cannot imagine why anyone with an Indesign document (Turkish or whatever) would want to convert the text to Word! I should guess that making a pdf of your Indesign document (If you have support for Turkish fonts)...

    Making single pages into magazine

Without getting into a discussion as to why Adobe did not include an advanced booklet plug-in with InDesign, I can say there is only one way to go: http://www.alap.com/products/inbooklet.html There is a downloadable trial. The price of the full version is well worth it. I have not used it...

Error message and strange fonts issues

Global IME: Is a very clever and useful programme supplied by Microsoft to enable the input of Japanese/Chinese/Korean into Microsoft programmes like Word by using a standard western keyboard. It stands for Global Input Method Editors. MS Mincho is the Microsoft equivalent font for Times New...

Error message and strange fonts issues

Jimoblak is correct MSMincho is a Japanese font used by Microsoft programmes. Is the document source Japan or from anyone using IME together with Word? I have a computer here with a western version of Windows 2000. I made a Word document file using MSMincho. In Design refused to import it. I...

Change PSD to TIF before prepress?

Thanks for the comments Genimuse. As I said, ".....my experience of the printing trade is limited". Now I know a little more. I think my reaction was brought about by the different standpoints of the 2 debators. One on the printer side and one on the customer side. My opinion was that...
