Here's probably a simple question. We're installing Windows 2003 R2 64 bit into a two node cluster with a shared SCSI backend drive array.
Is it true that the server nodes MUST be joined to Active Directory? These nodes are going to be accessible from the internet out in a DMZ, so it's...
Hi all,
Came here searching for exactly the problem that the original post described, the error and situation were exactly the same. Arcserve 6.61 on Win2k Server. Sure enough, creating a separate user and giving that user admin rights and log on as a service rights to the server fixed my...
As I understand it, Exchange notifies Outlook clients of new messages through a UDP packet sent to the Outlook client. If something is blocking that packet (such as a firewall, router or other network device), the Outlook client won't get the updates so new email doesn't show up. Of course, on...
I've seen something similar to this before, but I can't recall the specific circumstances. In our case, the IMS shutdown with (if I remember correctly) similar errors, and attempts to restart it would just result in more errors. We ended up pulling messages out of the internet mail queue (and...
I've been very happy with the Trend products, we have the entire suite. With Trend, there is a field you just type all the extensions that you want to block, and viola. We block just about everything, with the assumption that users can put documents into shared folders on the network and not...
This was posted about a month ago, and this solution worked for me with a 3Com 1100:
Try User: 3comcso
Password: RIP000
You should get a "Done" response. Reboot the switch and the admin and blank password should work.
Unfortunately, I don't remember the username that posted this...
You should be able to log into one of the switches, setup a 2nd VLAN, then go three ports and assign then to the new VLAN. Just did this yesterday on a 3300, I moved 6 ports into a separate VLAN and the traffic is completely isolated.

I would agree with Zelandakh. I've used Arcserve in the past and Veritas currently to backup Exchange machines, and it's well worth the expense. Consider it from this angle: how complicated is it to restore an email account? An entire information store? These tools, although expensive, are...
For incoming email, I believe that you can open the user's account in Exchange and change their Delivery Options tab to either forward the mail to another address, or forward to both the original recipient and an alternate address.

We used exmerge on a number of occasions to export a mail account (or multiple mail accounts) to PST files, and it worked flawlessly. We then did imports to a new Exchange server through Outlook that had been set up on a server with admin privs so that we could access any email account from a...
Are the Exchange servers in the same organization within Exchange? If so, I believe there is some sort of "move user" utility. If not, then I believe doing the reconfig is a manual process. I moved a number of users from one Exchange server - different organizations - and I had to...
If I may add my 2 cents...
In my experience, both the above suggestions are correct. I've used the EXMERGE utility to bulk copy out a range of Exchange email accounts to PST files and then backed those files up to tape for archival (or, in my case, ultimately to import onto another Exchange...
I'm assuming that your NDRs are from users trying to email you?
Is the Microsoft Exchange Internet Mail Service started? That's the first thing. If it is, then Telnet to the machine on port 25 (telnet ip 25) from an internal IP addres, you should receive the following response:
220...
I have only done this once from scratch at home through a broadband modem connection, but it worked well and seemed to be stable.
1) Register your domain. For my home use, I registered with Register.com, $35 per year, and they host your DNS entries for you, and allow you to manipulate your...
Have you tried clearing the ARP tables on the switch? I've seen instances (especially when hot-swapping patch cables from one switch to another) when clearing the ARP tables fixes some issues.
