Exchange under email attack, error 4029,loosing hard disk space

Hi all,
My Exchange server 5.5 sp4, under email attack, loosing resorces of the server: space, cpu time, memory.
If anyone can help me how to overcome the problem.

The message from the spool file 30N95PDH
seems to be looping through the routing
extension for the Internet Mail Service.
Please check that the routing DLL is configured
properly
 
I've seen something similar to this before, but I can't recall the specific circumstances. In our case, the IMS shutdown with (if I remember correctly) similar errors, and attempts to restart it would just result in more errors. We ended up pulling messages out of the internet mail queue (and copying them to another location) and restarting the service - problems solved. I don't know if that matches what you are seeing...it sounds kind of similar.
