How can i back-up all my mail Boxes in our server, i mean how can i save all Mail Boxes Including there Contents to a disk?

Afaik, all your mailbox info will be stored in the Priv.edb file stored in your exchange\mdbdata directory.

For backing up I would heartily recommend a product like "Veritas Backup Exec" with a tape drive, products like these have in-built support for Exchange 5.5.

If this is a one time deal, you can use Exmerge to copy the contents to PST files. However, if this is a routine take Grenage's advice and invest in a backup program like Backup Exec or Arcserve

If I may add my 2 cents...

In my experience, both the above suggestions are correct. I've used the EXMERGE utility to bulk copy out a range of Exchange email accounts to PST files and then backed those files up to tape for archival (or, in my case, ultimately to import onto another Exchange server). It takes both time and bandwidth to do this, and it's not automated, but it works.

The Veritas for Exchange is somewhat expensive, but it rocks. It's stable, and it gives you a number of options for restoring. If a user blows away their Inbox by accident, the brick level restore will allow you to restore to folder level without server downtime.

I've also used ArcserveIT Advanced 6.61 with the Exchange option and it too provided stable/seamless backup with folder level restores. It was stable, once we got the right patches installed. :)

And test, test, test your backups. Restore to some old workstation box with a fat IDE hard drive - these days, almost anything will run Server and Exchange. When it comes to crunch time and the server is down, both the experience of restoring the box as well as the confidence that you actually have a working backup system are invaluable.

Hope this helps,
Doug

We use veritas backup exec ver 8.6. It has the ability to restore whole mailboxes down to selected emails from our backup.

Thanks for all the reply!!!

by the way i will backup all mailboxes and thier contents once only coz i want to change my server i mean my hardware. "EXMERGE utility" where can i find this one? is this a freeware?

... if you want to change the hardware, the easiest way would be, to add the new server to your existing exchange-site and move the mailboxes (and public folders,connectors...etc) to the new server by using the exchange-administrator.
after every client has connected to the new server , remove the old one from the site.

another possibility would be, to backup the priv.edb and pub.edb files , copy them on the new server and run isinteg utility that is located in the exchsrvr/bin directory. if you do this , the new server must have the same name and must be located in the same domain.
