I agree with you on that. I did find this on a search....

From my own experience, these phones have standard SIP support only when you have it connected to a VCX server. The phones have no way of retaining firmware settings like your typical endpoints, so...
I have a school that just had their 3comm phone system crap out on them. They dont want to buy new phones today, so they are wondering if we can reuse their 3com IP phones on IPO.
has anybody done this and what were the results?

That happened to me before. I could get the DS30 to be seen on another IP500 unit, but no matter what we tried we couldnt get it to come back up on the original 500V1. Everytime you move it to another expansion port it permanently corrupts it and so on.
Now as a side thought, there is an...
Just for you info, all the older style dongles are getting very rare. I did a swap in January of 2011 and the distributor was almost out of the serial dongles. At that point it worked out for us to go to the IP500V2, but We had to pay for SCN licensing again because that was a hardware feature...
We took a 1403 apart and connected the speaker to a paging input one. that worked.
I once to a 5610 apart and wired the speaker to the headset jack and used a cord to plug a loud ringer in that way. We had a machine shop in a mine shaft and our only connection was IP to that location.

surely the analog extn port type should have been set to Paging?"
I will try that again. I think we needed disconnect thus the IVR.
You can't put a trunk in a hunt group, you need to page thru an extension. Put that extension in a "page all" hunt group.
This will work. Now the hard part is every time I do this it seems to take a different approach every time to make it actually work right. So I will sit back and hope...
Use soft console and do not add the "boss" as a member. The receptionist can still manually transfer a call but they wont be able to see the bosses status anymore.
It should be noted that using the partner phones with IPO partner version still require the same 4-wire - 2 pair connections. But the digital is single pair.
I think it funny that Avaya introduced the ETR card for the IPO but discontinued the Partner phones which sell for more refurbished than...
It sounds to me like you are running in partner mode, the way you described the delayed ringing. Is your IP office running in partner mode, because that is a different fix.
Put 3 members in a hunt group, and all those members are set to unconditional forward. The numbers to forward are the pager numbers in each user.
point your call flow to that Hunt group
ok, back to this thread, I like all the new stuff.
I prefer manager and web browser both. One of my customers hate their web interface because everytime java updates they cant get into their cisco switches.
It's probably a simular issue to the 4400 series phones. Avaya told me those phones have the potential to use to much power on DS8 cards and drag the IPO down. They work on DS30's, but no support from Avaya. I ran an upgrade to R7 and my customers DSS 4450 lamps stopped working properly, so they...
I should add that in schools, intercom system are considered life safety and the intercoms speakers on phones are not. The announcments and chimes cannot be heard in hallways or noisy classrooms (what, a noisy classroom?)using the phone speakers.
