If you ultimately want to implement a logon script, try http://www.kixtart.org
By the way, its a good idea to keep your clients and workstations similar (better, all the same). This will minimize your administrative tasks. Good luck.
You have to go to the properties of the printer via the account that created it. Go to the security tab and give rights to EVERYONE to print. You will notice that there is an allow and a deny column. If a right is not check to allow or deny, then it is explicitly denied.
Basically, you have to...
You cannot upgrade a server operating system (ie NT4 SERVER)with a work station operating system (ie 2K or XP Pro). Server to Server only! Spend the time to identify the files that needs saving. Make sure that applications installed on NT4 will run on newer version. A clean install is the way to...
Your best is to use a new version of Norton GHost (7.5 or above). Do not assign a drive letter to the new drive (you can remove in disk administrator. Make a ghost boot disk and restart computer with it. You will be able to choose the source disk/partition and all available disk in the system...
You put the scripts in the NETLOGON share, which is c:\winnt\system32\repl\import\scripts. Same path except \export\scripts for it to scyn with all BDC. You could just check your BDC's NETLOGON shares to make sure the script is there. Good luck.
Try pinging an internet address like 66.218.71.198 (yahoo.com). If you get a reply then you know its DNS. Do tracert to that address to get an idea where its failing. Make sure in the browser settings under connection that its not looking for a proxy server.
Try unplugging from one subnet ...
It sounds like it might be the user account. Are you sure a script is assigned to that user?
Are there BDC's in this domain? If there are, are you sure the script are being replicated to all BDCs. The Win2K might be getting authentication from a BDC that does not have the script.
The point is...
I think the closest you're going to get is to add the user to the Account Operator group. The group will have full control over user accounts. Win2k have a delegation option, but nt does not.
You're on the right track, but I dont think the changes were applied properly. When you look at the security tab of a folder, you'll see the users/groups with the permissions and the abbrev. (RXW)(RX)
The first grouping is the permissions given for folders and the second is permission given for...
Ok this happens during high network activity.I dont know the answer, but I would replace that NIC card with an Intel or 3com. Try the simplest thing first. Good luck.
Why would get additional space by converting to NTFS? Have you used the disk administrator utility in the admin tools?
I just check an NT4 workstation with fat. Using a detail view in my computer it shows 1.86GB total and 150MB free. Showing all files on C: I check properties and its 1.34GB...
A batch file that checks OS version and runs the particular file is all you need in a logon script.
Port 80 is used by the Welchia virus and the blaster patch is the same to fix that problem. Good luck.
You have a very small network, why dont you keep it simple? I would give the cable router a static (LAN)address and disable dhcp services. I would also disable dhcp from the wireless router and also give it a static lan address so its just an access point. Making sure that all machines are on...
Setting the IsDomainMaster parameter entry to True or Yes makes that computer a Preferred Master Browser which has priority over other computers in master browser elections. Whenever a preferred master browser starts, it forces a browser election. Any computer running Windows NT Workstation or...
