Open my computer and right click, Dial up connections - properties...it should be in there...although I am going from memory so apologies if its incorrect...alternatively it could be under internet options, connections...properties
Are you using a firewall at all? Your ISP may be pinging you to check all is ok and if the firewall is preventing the ping from returning so your ISP could think all is not ok so disconnects you?
What phone do you use? Do you connect your modem cable using a splitter? Try disconnecting the...
Thanks for the replies guys...
Karl, the organisation names are given to me in an Excel spreadsheet. This is why I use Excel to generate the query "or org_name like..." blah blah
Bill, I do understand what you are saying and this is something I am slowly addressing, however I will add (and...
Hopefully someone here can help me...
I have to generate a list of contacts from our database that has in excess of over 250,000 records. I get given a list of criteria by sales, for example they want to mail everyone in a particular Organisation and I then have to pull these from the db. The...
Not sure if this is the correct forum, but hopefully someone can point me in the right direction...
Within the software I use, we press a print icon that calls an XSL page that displays the necessary data. This then opens the print dialogue window as usual.
The problem I have is this...
Hi...
I was wondering if I'm looking in the right direction... I've had loads of problems with pop ups (even popping up if the browser window isn't open!) I ran Adaware and Spybot S&D and removed a hell of a lot of nasties...everything was fine, or so I thought...2 hours later the pop ups...
I need some help...
I've had problems with a friends PC (last time I offer to do ANYTHING!!) ;-) I won't go into too much detail as its rather boring, but basically I need to rebuild his PC. I have XP and I try to boot from the CD-ROM, but it comes back with a boot error - I think the CD Drive...
Apologies, I've just re-read your post. I thought you were using Windows XP. Unfortunately Microsoft Word 2000 uses true Single Document Interface (SDI) technology and no longer supports Multiple Document Interface (MDI), so SDI cannot be turned off in Microsoft Word 2000.
To change from Single Document Interface (where a new window opens for each document) to Multiple Document Interface (where each new document opens in the same window) you need to go into Tool -> Options and select the VIEW tab. Uncheck the box marked "Windows in Taskbar"
I've been unable to get on the net recently too, so I've been carrying out quite a lot of research on this. I remember stumbling across an article that talked about one user profile being able to access the net but another profile not being able to and it suggested that the index.dat file could...

Well, I think I'm going to have to admit defeat...nothing has worked and I am at a total loss as to what else to do...
To summarise:
Can connect to the Internet, but all...
Thanks again for your help bcastner, I'll give these a try tonight as well.
Can't download SpyBot S&D to floppy as its 3.5MB, but I may be able to burn it to CD (if the nice IT Support man at my company lets me!) ;-)
Fingers crossed this helps.....really can't face a full re-install of the OS %-(
Oh and another thing I forgot to post....when looking into the problem last night, I discovered that the %systemroot% was c:\WINNT\...
The thing is, this PC is running Windows 2000....is that normal, or could this be a determining factor??? Getting more and more confused as time goes on...!!
Just found some information on the HOST file....I assume when I find it I need to put a # in front of all the IP addresses (if any) accept the local host (127.0.0.1)?? is that correct....[morning]
Well, I'm still in the same predicament as yesterday. I ran the Winsock repair facility, but the problem still remained. I uninstalled the Internet Dial-up Connection and re-installed it. I even removed IE6 and re-installed that...still no joy!
This is doing my head in! Any more suggestions...
OK, this may sound like a numpty question, but how can I verify that the DNS settings are correct for a standalone home PC? Isn't there a setting in the Dial up properties that you can tick to automatically set DNS Settings?
Thanks for the link bcastner, lots of info there to help me get to the...
