I can tell you that if your 5.1 catalog is clean and older media servers have been removed from the catalog properly, then an upgrade from 5.1 to 6.0 MP4 is stable.
I would suggest you visit the 6.0 Upgrade Portal that is availabe on the Symantec support site.
MP4 for 6.0 is VERY stable.
Well the SDLT220 are rated for 11MB/sec so at a 2:1 compression you need to plan for 22MB/sec. Your SCSI card is rated for 40MB/sec, so you should be good.
Now there are a lot of other factors to look at when doing tape backup.
Is the raid set fragmented?
What is the internal bandwidth of the...
Here is a neat interactive quide from Quantum to show what reads and writes to what media.

Well, the 9714 only supported DLT4000 and DLT7000 drives. Since you can no longer get STK to support that library, if you had to service it it would be a Time and materials service call ($$$$).
So, if you have 40 slots and DLT7000 drives, you can store about 1.4TB of data.
As for modular lib...
what kind of drives? If they are LTO2, check the firmware and have STK put the latest on them. There was Firmware issues with IBM LTOG2 and the McData 4500 switch.
depending on how large you plan to grow the SATA setup or how hard you are pushing the FC controller already, you might consider the B220. Its pretty cheap. STK is just releasing the FC/SATA behind the same controller so I would be a little careful with that setup.
I beleive you will need to...
I have ususally been selling and instaling the IBM drives, but as a STK reseller, HP is making a big push to get their drives in all STK libs
. The HP LTO2 drive is going to be the standard drive in the new SL500.
You won't go wrong with either HP or IBM Drives.
A drive is a drive and is only concerned about media. You just need to make sure that you have the correct media in the correct pool.
So all your LTO1 media could be hcart in one media pool and all the LTO2 media could be hcart2 and in a different pool. Now NBU will just pull from the pools...
You can read and write your LTO1 tapes in your LTO2 drives. As you add LTO2 media, you need to create a different media pool and different media type (Hcart2).
Thanks for all the info guys! I will probably go with the 1 inch since we are planning on the oval 3LNB dish and who know what you might need in a few years.
Thanks again!
Well, legally, Veritas only allow 8 clients with Business Server 4.5 so you should already be using DataCetner.
But if you are still under maintaince with Veritas for Business Server, I would suggest you get the FREE upgrade to NetBackup SERVER 5.1. This is the replacement to Business Server...
Helping a friend with his new construction. He will be getting DirecTV and will be mounting the dish on the false chimney.
My question, would I be able to run the cables from the basement, up the walls and up the chimney to drill a hole to pull the wires out of the chimney? Is that...
beleive it or not I sell all 3 and EMC always ends up beating STK and NetApp on price.
Being a national reseller, I noticed that different disk vendors play better in different regions.
I too like the D series box. Santricity is an awsome product and very easy to use.
Have you looked at...
what OS's are you planning on using. We have tried to get it to work for 2 Solaris customers and Veritas finally agreed that the issues we saw were limitation to the product and the Unix side of BMR is not quite there yet. As for Windows, It seems to work good.
Veritas did the install for...
