SCO 5.0.5 Daylight Savings Time Change

I haven't posted in a while, but I just want to say how much I love reading here, especially solutions from the old guard. You the man, Stan!

    Spam control with 2k3

One more thing about the metabase. Microsoft makes an edit tool that can be downloaded for free, but I don't remember anything about bulk importing, I'm afraid.

    Spam control with 2k3

I believe it's in the IIS metabase. I've been trying to get something similar going, myself. Access to a list of IP addresses (Country/Continent of origin usually) that send nothing but crap would be a nice resource, as well. GFI Mailessentials and Mailsecurity gets a bit overworked when your...

    Exchange Server DC Promotion

Well, I've completed the promotion, and there doesn't seem to be any ill-effects. I'd also like to move Exchange to a member server (it's already there -- would just like to remove it from SBS). I just hope SBCore doesn't have a cow and insist on shutting down the server in the future. Thanks...

    Exchange Server DC Promotion

I have Exchange 2003 running on 2003 SBS. I configured it as a member server on the domain before being told via messenger popup (and my 'after-the-fact' research) that Microsoft insists SBS be configured as a DC within seven days of installation, or face a system shutdown. Of course, I already...

    ISDN Leased for IDSL

I know it's not popular but I have this 1602 router with a WIC-1B-U and was wondering if it could be used for IDSL 144. I don't see such an ISDN setting like in the 802's. It can be configured for 128k leased ISDN but I'm not sure about the 144 frame that this one circuit I'm trying to use will...

    BADTRK/SCSIBADBLK ?

First off I don't think there is a difference because scsibadblk seems to invoke badtrk on 5.0.5 so I will assume they are the same. My boss will not let me replace a hard drive which is currently reading 29 bad blocks on root (full partition). So when I run badtrk and the blocks are displayed...

Sharing a local printer via LPD

I have it working with my 2000 machine, but have not tried NT 4 yet. You can easily use rlpconf script to add the entry in /etc/printcap for you. You just have to tell the script the name of the printer and what device is used like /dev/lp0. Then the machine that is going to print remotely...

    Blocking a ping (ICMP)

    You da man Danny. Thanks.

    Blocking a ping (ICMP)

I'm looking into some of the ideas mentioned above. If I can't get some kind of firewall or packet filtering to work then I just might have to consider putting the interface back on the inside. Thanks folks.

    Blocking a ping (ICMP)

I know putting a SCO box on the internet with a public IP is not the smartest thing to do. But I'm interested if anyone knows how to keep the interface from being "Ping-able"? Couldn't find a SCO article on stopping ICMP but I fiugre it's just a service that is running and can be stopped.

Seagate TR4 tape drives and SCO 5.0.5 prob

My first instinct would be that the backup program, script or user do not have adequate permissions to the device. But you say this is random. That might suggest that the hardware is not reachable. Do you receive the same results as root? An un-orthodox way to see if it is hardware is while the...

    TELNETD HANGS

Sometimes when this machine invokes a telnetd process for a pseudo tty the end user machine may not get a login for minutes. Days later it is discovered that the process is still running and shows up in in a ps script that tells you of processes using more than 5% resources (per Man page). SAR...

    SCO IDE drivers

You may find this hard to believe, but I have gotten a simillar message while installing in an HP Netserver E-60. I had 32MB of memory. When I put a 64MB chip inside, the error disappeared. If you try this let me know what happens.

How to add route to server

What about the router? Does it support Network address translation and does the interface have a public IP address that everyone on the internet can hit? Or better yet, does the server have a public IP assigned to it? I know that's not secure but people do it. If not, once you have your route...

    Email Attachments

Annihilannic is right, however don't forget to put the name of your output file after uuencode. The output file name is what the recipient will see as the attachment

Making SCO 5.0.5 act as a router...

I suppose it was arrogant of me to think that UNIX would run Port Address Translation by default just because it has two network cards. I installed a program that adds the NAT service and so far does what it's supposed to. Thanks for your help.

Making SCO 5.0.5 act as a router...

There are two NIC's installed on this system the first has a public IP with a default route to next hop. Everything is fine on that end. The second card has a private IP of 192.168.1.1/16. I followed some vague directions that say to update the inconfig file by typing: #inconfig ipforwarding 1...
