If you go in the printers properties you should be able to set the printer from spooling printing to print imediately
That should speed things up a bit
Easiest way would be with Partition Magic
You can set what size's you want them to be with no problems and even change them later if you want without loosing data on them

Also make sure you have the 48bitLba patch installed
Without it windows XP will not recignize your hdd proper either

One of the problems is Windows XP with SP1 was not designed for 64bit CPU's
There is a 64bit version of XP out for those newer processers!

ok now that you said it came out of another computer now your starting to give some details
What is probably happening is it's loading drivers and looking for hardware that was on your other system.
If you do a recovery install on it you should be ok as it will reset that hardware and drivers...
