You could also try the enterprise activation icon from the blackberry if it's still there. You give the email address and the activation password you set on the user inside BES. If that account has many items in the mailbox it could take a very long time to sync wirelessly. In that case...
In ESM if you right click on mailboxes under the mailbox store there is an option to "export list"
It will give you the number of items and the size of each mailbox in a text file (basically what you see on the screen.)

NIGHTMARE for me also. BSOD for me. I had to do a disaster recovery to get back up and running. (If i had done a system state b/u to a safe place (I'm using Win2000) I think I could have recovered easily but that is just a guess.)
They do help you when you call. I've had a couple of these type issues with them. You can setup a feedback loop where they will automatically send you the offending email etc.
