SQL Server backup issues

The first errror (kythri)sounds like a security issue. If you don't specify a username and password for the SQL database then it will try and use the default SQL one. Try putting the username and password for the SQL db under the remote tab on the client setup. The second one sounds more like...

    Looking to backup hard drives?

Try ghost. It is probably a better solution then Legato. Ghost will do a byte by byte copy of harddrive so ALL the data would be there.

Need help figuring out backup time for one client

Trying using a product called nsrmgr. (Search in Google for it) It provides the backup through put, the Save and completion time PER CLIENT and whole bunch of other stuff. Other wise you could check the completion notice. It will say something like Client: C:\ level=full, 3852 MB 00:48:48...

    Schedule backup failed

This means that the groups is still running. Click on manange groups. You should see your group, with a yellow clock symbol. Right click on it and select stop. This will stop your backup. You might want to look at WHY the backup isn't completing. Too much data, slow network, slow tape units...

    Problem with restarting failed groups

Have you increased your "client retries" parameter? Manage Groups -> Right click on group -> Edit -> Increase "Client retries" (On a windows platform, can't remember how to do it through Unix gui)

    Legato - any good ?

I think I speak for everyone here when I say that it is a somwhat difficult program to use. It requires A LOT of pre-planning and making sure that you completely understand Legato before you strart implementing it. Invest in a Legato consultant before doing anything with it. (Doesn't have to be...

    Legato Disaster Recovery

You are right, it shouldn't have worked! Done this a number of times and it doesn't always work. Generally, I follow this process. Install OS with same name and IP address etc. Install SP. Intall Legato. Recover. reboot. fixed. I guess there is probably about 10 extra minutes in my way but if...

    Errors from

Personally, I wouldn't worry to much with the diffrent levels. Apart from the fact that they get way too confusing too quickly (like legato needs to have more confusing options in it!). It just gets messy. Leave at full and incr, alot more logical and easier to maintain. In regards to the issues...

    recover problem with Tru64

Firstly, what type of device hardware are you using? If it is an LTO drive then try this Configuring the LTO tape drives. 1) SOLARIS Setup: ================= On Solaris the default tape drive driver is st and it provides the interface to various SCSI drives which may or may not be Sun...

    Dr. Watson in nsrmmd

Either your mmvolume_6 database is courrupt or the tape is cactus. Try removing that tape (001595 ) and restarting. Otherwise rename the mmvolume_6 folder to mmvolume_6old and seeing if you are still getting the DrWatson. If you are not then you will need to restore the media database useing...

    Registy changes

Yes, but under the GUI it will only let you set it to a min of 5 secs and 10 secs. The Reg hack lets you set it to a lower setting. Hence the post. enjoy.

    Legato Networker Backup software

How long is a piece of string? That question is a little ambigious given that ever product has it's strengths and weaknesses. I would say that Legato is good in a multi-OS envirnoment and for ease of monitoring. On the flip-side though, it requires a massive amount of detail planning in order...

    Legato Backup

No. The tape has a minimum of 34Gig. Maximum of 70G. You will almost always get somewhere in between. So, 56 Gig is normal. It all depends on the type of data being backed up. ie, lots of straigh text documents = lots of compression therefore closer to 70 Gig. Databases that have already been...

    problems with drive restore

Check the savegroup logs and confirm the E: was backed up on that day. Maybe it was missed. You can do a couple of thigs. Check the index using Nsrck <can't remember the switch but have a look at the man pages> If you want to bring back the media index then use mmrecov This is going to overwrite...

    problems with drive restore

Before you restore the E:\ drive you can view what volumes are required for the restore. Can you confirm that those volumes are aviable? Does networker "know" about them. We have problems every now and then where the autochanger looses a tape and an inventory of the slot that has the...

    slow restore

This is just a "feature" of Networker. You can get it to read from more then one device but you will need to start multipule restore jobs. Only problem I found was that if you have more devices then process, the restore process will max out your CPU to 100%. Well, that's what I found...
