It may be that your PC does not have software installed that can view or open the attachment filetype... What is the filetype of the attachment?

In addition to the IE setting... You can set Notes as your default email program from within Notes... File --> Preferences --> User preferences, expand Mail option, select Internet option and make sure the "Use Lotus Notes as my default email program" is checked.
Are you sure that you have the attachment selected??? The attachment icon should be enclosed in box when selected... and you will have selection options to save, delete, etc. on the selected attachment...

We have experienced similar problems with users on OS versions Win95/WinNT/Win2K. Have increased the NSF_Buffer_Pool_Size to 80MB (default is 40MB) within the Notes.ini file but seems to reduce the number of freezes but it doesn't eliminate them. Also noticed a wierd occurrance in Task Manager...
