I think that the video card IS the problem! Or at least one of them. A 1X AGP card uses a voltage of 3.3v - A 4X card uses 1.5v. It sounds however that you have more than this problem. I would first try disconnecting the CDROM and using a 4X AGP card to see if you can get a POST screen. If you...
Have you tried booting in safe mode and deleting it from there? Pressing F8 while booting - as the first post screen is finishing - should give you the chance to get into safe mode.

"fix /mbr" ?
I think that you probably mean "fdisk /mbr" - this command writes a new default master boot record. In this situation I'm not sure that he wants to do that - he could lose all the data on the disk now.
However if it is simply a question of a total...
The only thing that you might need extra is correct size screws - sometimes harddrives don't have them included in my experience. I bought a little box with an assortment of computer screws, etc for very little - unfortunately I can't tell you where to go as I live in Japan - possibly somewhere...
I'm not sure but it might be a Gateway thing. I have a older Gateway Profile that does exactly the same thing on a USB 1.1 port. It also shuts down intermittently when I try to use the USB interface to a digital camera. The USB seems to work well enough with other devices - such as a USB printer...

Thank you for the star!!
I would try to let disk cleanup do everything except compress the drive to start with. You mentioned that your husband is editing video - a compressed disk would not help that. Video editing uses loads of disk space while it is being done as it usually uses...

I also use SpyBot AND Adaware.
SpyBot detects Adaware when you run it and warns that if you use Adaware it might detect some SpyBot entries and identify them as spyware when in fact they are not. This has something to do with SpyBots' definition files and backup files as far as I know -...

Unfortunately "Jmatts" links for JV16 now appear to be dead. Still it's nice to know that it might be out there somewhere - I'll look around.

It sounds like your MBR is messed up. Can you use your XP CD to go into Recovery Console? (you will need the master administrator password to do this) from the console run -"fixmbr"
There is an overview on running Recovery Console here...
I have been using JV16 for a long time. I had version 1.3. When I last tried to use it I got a window saying that the program was too old - and I should update it. When I checked the update site I found out that I would now have to pay for it! This has made me very annoyed as while I don't mind...
Make sure that the user name and password (if applicable)of the ME machine is added into the users on the Win2000 machine that you want the resource(printer)from (if there is no password on the ME machine - make sure that in the user setup on the 2000 machine the box is checked to not use a...
I think that you need two output channels from one video card - or two video cards - to get a dual monitor setup. Laptops don't normally have that function - it's more the capability of having a larger screen than your laptop to work on. That's how my Omnibook works in any event!
Kim...
I don't think that you need to be in the BIOS setup - normally the BIOS will automatically detect a new hard drive. How have you connected the drive? Is it connected on the same cable as another drive? Is it on it's own cable to a different IDE plug on the motherboard? This will affect if it is...

Thank you all for the replies. As of this morning I still didn't receive any reply, so I am going to give the company another 24 hrs and then report them. For those interested I found this site to report them at:

I used a VISA credit card, and will contact them...
