Create a user/pass on the 2000 box and use that to log onto microsoft network on the 98 comp. That MAY solve the problem...

Well, it not likely an "attack" as you say, but maybe something in your code could be triggering the warning?
Norton 2004 has a lot of people complaining about it, I don't use it myself...

Look to all the software that comes with the sound card(device). Is there a mixer that controls the volume\tone\balance etc. maybe some reverb or 3D effects are running on the channel being used by the instant messenger progs.

What page was it that is causing the alert? Norton Internet Security is protecting you from that site by blocking access.

How are you accessing the bios? Are you using the "Tsetup" Program? What do you have on the boot floppy? Did you test the floppy on another comp to see that it works?

Hmmm, hard to say on the evidence what may be causing the crashes, but the os is probably set to reboot on failure.
If you right click on "my computer" then choose properties, and then select the "advanced" tab, you will see a button to select "startup and recovery". Click this and you will see...
I like f-protect myself. It's small, works well, updates itself, and isn't a resource hog. I have used norton's and find the F-prot is much more problem free. It is also less expensive and there are no "activation" issues.

Well, what sort of video card does the beast have? If you can find the proper driver for it that should do it.
I saw the same thing on an old 95 machine with s3 (I think) card with only 1 meg of ram. the video could be set higher but would revert when it was rebooted. Found a driver for it and...
