If I'm posting this message in the wrong section, could anyone please direct me to a more approciate place to discuss this issue? Thank you.

I recently bought a game for my PC. I was able to successfully install and play the game without a problem. The name of the game was Nosferatu. (It's a good game BTW) The problem is that for some reason I can no longer play it. Whenever I try to play it, this error message keeps popping up. It says "Error:CFXGenericEngine:Initialize ()."

What does this mean? And secondly, can anyone recommend the neccessary adjustments that I might have to make in order to replay the game?

I don't understand. There is not one scratch on the disk, and I tried to reinstall the game. The hardware is or should not be a problem either, because like I said I was able o play the game. (Even on the more demanding settings)

Anyway thanks. As always I look forward to hearing responses from people.

Un-install the game from the computer (add-remove programs), and start over.

Like I said, I already tried doing that. Apparently that didn't work.

I clicked on "uninstall" and opted to remove the program completely and all of it's components.

Well, you've done everything right, can you install the CD on a friends computer and check it out? The CD may have gone bad.

That could very well be the case (although I don't see how that's possible) The disk was kept in emaculate condition.

Any idea what that message means? Thanks.

Tried a "Google" search, apparantly it'a a common question (you have to register to view - didn't bother!). As for the CD, it could be a problem in manufacturing (foil bad - etc.)

Do you have an ATI video card? If so there is a patch that you need. see this link:
Click on "news and press" you will see the link to the patch.

I honestly don't know the specs on my sytem's hardware. It's onboard. My machine is a Dell dimension 2400. I do know however that it's not an AGP. Whatever card I have it does support the game.

Right click on your desktop and click properties - click on settings or settings>advanced (depending on OS) and it will tell you what VGA adapter you have.

I'll get back to you on that, but it's strange that I can't seem to contact the publisher. ( Their site is either down or doesn't seem to be working properly. There was no mention of a customer support number either.

Just curious folks, what makes you think that the video crd might be a factor?

Thanks

Can't really say if the grsphics card is to blame but here is a quote from a review of that computer:
"Graphics and sound are provided by Intel's 'Extreme' integrated graphics chipset and Soundmax integrated audio respectively. Nothing to write home about here, but adequate for the PC's intended role as an office machine."
Read the whole review here:
