I have a ECS K7S5A Pro 5.0 motherboard in a newly assembled
PC. The onboard sound card in the motherboard is not working. I have down loaded the Audio Drive from the manufacturer and tried to install it. The audio driver won't install either. It gives a messge like " the plug & play needs upgrade". I have windows XP operating System .

I am not sure that the error message is correct. Any suggestions as to how to fix this problem. Thank you in advance.

Has the onboard sound been enabled in the bios?

I could have very easily have missed it, since I did a very fast look-see, but I did not see that motherboard listed in the Windows XP hardware catalog as being compatible. You might want to look into that.

This MB used to have sound installed from the CD that came with it. It used to work with windows XP well.

This time I am using this MB for another project with a new hard drive and every thing else is the same. The same CD that came with the MB is no longer able to install the sound. Therefore I down loaded the latest drive from the Manufacturer, it still won't install, instead it quits half way. I have XP Operating System with MS Office 2001 and DSL connected to on-boadrd Lan, every thing works fine except for the onboard sound which used to work fine.

I just set up a K7S5A board with XP home last week (hasn't even shipped yet. To get it to work with XP (original install CD says: Not applicable to XP), I had to use "Everest Home" (free) to find what chip it used (different chips on different runs of this mobo). Do a google search for this audio chip, and download the new drivers. Out of curiosity, which audio chip does yours use?
