VLANs with non-cisco switches not working Grrrr!!

Did you set up trunk links between the Linksys and Cisco switches? I'm never used Linksys switches but I do know that Cisco utilizes proprietary ISL tagging(encapsulation) to identify the VLan for data going over the trunk. In order for a trunk link to work with a non-Cisco device, you must...

new domain, new 2003 server, what's wrong?

Sounds to me like DNS is your issue. Here's a couple things you can check: 1) Ensure that all the necessary SRV records for the domain are present in your DNS zone. If you told dcpromo to configure the DNS for you, they will be; if you built your DNS prior to running dcpromo and the SRV records...

Losing connection to DC in WAN

Don't know about a white paper; but, a quick search on microsoft.com came up with this page on TechNet. http://technet2.microsoft.com/WindowsServer/f/?en/Library/86a8abf7-7cfa-4aee-85fa-3cf25cf30e0e1033.mspx I'm sure you could find more info with Google as well.

    AD Policy

Not too sure about the web-based install; but, you can push out software packages (.msi files) using group policies within AD. When you set up the installation package, one of the options is to install with elevated privileges.

Losing connection to DC in WAN

Just a stab in the dark here; but, it's possible that the WAN link is intermittent and causing the AD replication to timeout. Have you tried setting up different sites in AD Sites and Services to manually control your replication topology? It may be that the remote DC is timing out trying to...

New Install of 2003 - Domain

If you need a secondary domain controller, then run dcpromo.exe after you install the server OS. Simply follow the step-by-step instructions to make it a DC in an existing domain (make sure you have the account information handy for an account with Schema and Enterprise Admin rights). This will...

New Install of 2003 - Domain

Unlike the old WinNT days, Win2k3 can change modes without having to rebuild. The recommended configuration for an Exchange server is to have it as a member of the domain. You simply install 2003 server and join it to the domain as you would any workstation. Once that is done, you can build...

Cannot Send Out Mail from Linksys in Wireless Mode

As a side note, the 802.11g wireless protocol uses the 2.4GHz frequency to transmit data. This is the same frequency that is used by alot of cordless phones and microwaves. I bought a new 5.8GHz to remove this interference and make sure that the microwave is off when using the wireless networking.

    FTP issue

Not sure about Mozilla; but with IE, you can use the menu Tools>>Internet Options, and go to the Advanced tab. Under the Browsing section, there should be a radio button that reads "Enable folder view for FTP sites"; this should allow drag and drop functions to IE.

    DHCP server for VLANs

Maybe I should learn to read before posting. Is the router you are using RFC-1542 compliant? If it is not, then the router is not forwarding DHCP broadcast packets. An alternate solution is to setup a DHCP relay agent in your second subnet for proper DHCP communications.

    DHCP server for VLANs

When you separate your network into VLANs, you're doing the same thing as subnetting your network. The only way for the VLANs to communicate with each other, is to have a router in place to connect the separate networks(VLANs) together.

Windows update error: Updates were unable to be successfully installed

I've seen this error before; the solution I found was to clear some room on the C: drive. The drive had no free space available to run the updates.
