Suitable ADSL modem for Netgear FVS318

A Dlink DSL-300 G+ will work with a FVS318 but beware it cannot be reconfigured from its IP address of 192.168.0.1. This means that you will have to reconfigure your FVS318 to another range like 192.168.1.1 before you can use it.

Is there something I am missing? I

Sorry! if you do not have an exchange server installed on your network then you cannot use the public folder feature of outlook. To recap: Outlook must be connected over the netowrk to an Exchange server for this feature to be available.

Can't Connect to Exchange Server from Outlook 2000

This is probably caused by missing RPC entries in the registry ClientProtocols The Client Protocols subkey is created when you install the operating system and the first network protocol, and it contains entries that determine the protocols that can be used by the client to connect to Exchange...

Re NT4 network prob. I have had a similar prob in the past. It turned out to be a hardware problem in that the port that the computer was connected to on the hub was failing. After moving it to another port the problem disappeared, its certainly worth a try!
