Are you using Windows XP? There has been an issue with the AC97 drivers and XP. I tried dozens of different drivers (on a different motherboard) until I stumbled across one that worked (and sorry, I can't remember which one!). I seem to recall it was a generic AC97 driver from the Realtek site
I have this board installed. The sound is enabled in BIOS by default, but you need to installl the sound drivers from the CD that came with the M/B. If you don't have the CD, the drivers are at http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us
I often find with laptops that USB drives get assigned to the drive letter normally used by the CDROM or to the first network drive. To check, go to Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Computer Management/Storage/Disk Management(Local)and look for the USB drive in there (you may need to have a...
Have Office XP on Windows XP and just installed Office SP2 and WinXP SP1. Now Word will not open document files (all were generated in Word 2000), just crashing and offering to send a message to Microsoft to report the problem. Worked fine before SP2.
Help!! Nothing on the MS knowledge base....
With a mixed XP and W98 network I know that each XP computer must have a user account for the W98 computer(s) name and an active password (ie the password must be active on the W98 machine and the XP user account) before XP will allow access. Might be worth a try with your problem too.
I've had XP Home Edition for about 3 months (and working fine for 6 weeks, but that's another story...!). I have a 40Gb HD with 3 partitions - system, apps and data. Every boot, chkdsk runs on the f: drive (data), and every time there are no errors. Norton Disk Doctor also finds no errors...
A partial answer I'm afraid - go to the microsoft XP site and search for the complete answer onthe XP hardware forum if you don't follow this.
This is known and the first thing to try is a registry edit - only do this if you know what you are doing! (Better instructions are on the Microsoft...
Anybody got Intel Anypoint (Wireless USB version) working with XP yet? I've got 5 PCs (4 W98SE and XP on the main PC). All worked fine for a year when all PCs were W98, now had to upgrade to the XP software and after a few days with no problems, now PCs appear and disappear from the network at...
Thanks guys - problem solved as it was a piece of rogue code that created an ID table - but the data was not present on the other PCs. It was a piece of code picked up in an edit process. Lesson learned - re-use of code from other databases always need a careful check!
Many thanks
Rick
This is bizarre! I have created an Access 97 DB that works fine on my PC but which gives a compile error (compile error in hidden module)when transferred to other PCs in our team. All PCs are essentially identical Dells wih NT4 SP6, the same version of Access and much the same other software...
Thanks - I have told friends and colleagues so many times to "RTFM" that I feel naked without one! No problems so far so I'll take your good advice....
I have just bought a secondhand Laserjet 111p (for the kids!), but found that the HP website has downloadable manuals only from the Lasertjet 4 series. An Altavista search hasn't found anything - can anyone help me out with an alternative source?
Many thanks
Rick
Does the freeze only happen in games?
Your system looks like an "overclockers" set up - are you overclocking the chip or the geforce? If so, heat is probably your problem. Get a copy of Motherboard Monitor from one of the overclockers web sites and watch your temperatures. If the...
I have a Hercules MX (no fan attached)which is stable at 200 (core) and 220 (memoory) MHz using a card cooler fan - this goes in the slot next to the card. Without the fan the best I can get is 190/200
A couple of things - DOS compatability mode is something Microsoft put in so that those of us with really old kit than was designed before Windoze was invented could still be persuaded to upgrade. During installation, if Windows finds a device that it doesn't understand it will force DOS...
