I TOOK THAT MODEM BACK TO THE STORE AND GOT A DIFFERENT ONE. INSTALLED IT WITH NO PROBLEMS
BUT
IT TOOK DOWN THE TELEPHONE LINE. CAUSED A SHORT ACCORDING TO SWB.
SO, I TOOK THAT BACK AND SWAPPED FOR A NEW MODEM, SAME KIND.
JUST INSTALLED MODEM AND GUESS...
Sorry - by the way - DEVICE MANAGER CANNOT SEE THE MODEM even though it shows up in System Information. But I did use Device Manager to get to the port and change to 128,000 BPS - Flow Control shows Hardware Flow Control

My problem was that Hardware acceleration was set too low. PCPitStop testing showed this. I upped the slider bar to the maximun and then checked DirectX test and all accelerator options were available.
My DirectX test shows that the 3 Acceleration features (Direct 3D, etc.) are grayed out - Not Available. Can anyone help with this. Can't run flight games. Results are variable, depending on game (F/A 18, JetfighterIV).

1) Clean inside of PC using compressed air - thoroughly. Re-seat your RAM and other other hardware.
2) Use MSCONFIG and stop everything except EXPLORER when starting up.
3) Stop Power Management, Virus Checker.
4) REBOOT.
