I am only getting 4800 baud on this modem - AND Win XP restarts itself over and over again if the modem is turned on when it boots up (right after the Found new Hardware msg pops up). If it is off when I boot up, then I can turn it on and use it BUT Win XP (Home Ed, SR-2)does not show it where I can run diagnostics on it to send to CREATIVE Labs. I downloaded the updated driver for Win XP and ran it but cannot tell what it is doing or if it succeeds. Telling XP to search for new hardware does not work (as soon as it finds it Win XP reboots). There are so many indications/contraindications that I am at a loss to explain all of the anomalies I encounter when trying to fix this problem. Tech Support wanted me to run the modem diagnostics but I can't since the modem is not listed there. Here is the XP System info:

Control Panel Phone & Modem shows the Modem BUT says it is 'Not Present' even though I am using it as I speak.

I would appreciate any help in this matter. The key thing is that I APPARENTLY CANNOT DO A CLEAN INSTALL BECAUSE AS SOON AS I TURN IT ON AND BOOT UP, OR TURN IT ON AND HAVE WIN XP SEARCH FOR IT AS NEW HARDWARE, WIN XP finds the modem and reboots itself.

Thanks,

Sorry - by the way - DEVICE MANAGER CANNOT SEE THE MODEM even though it shows up in System Information. But I did use Device Manager to get to the port and change to 128,000 BPS - Flow Control shows Hardware Flow Control

Yes - according to INTEL. but, good news!
I TOOK THAT MODEM BACK TO THE STORE AND GOT A DIFFERENT ONE. INSTALLED IT WITH NO PROBLEMS
BUT
IT TOOK DOWN THE TELEPHONE LINE. CAUSED A SHORT ACCORDING TO SWB.

SO, I TOOK THAT BACK AND SWAPPED FOR A NEW MODEM, SAME KIND.

JUST INSTALLED MODEM AND GUESS WHAT !!!!

31,200 BPS SPEED. LIKE LIGHTNING. (WELL, COMPARED TO 4800 OR 7200).

ANYWAY, THANKS AND I THINK TEK-TIPS IS GREAT EVEN THOUGH I DID NOT END UP USING IT. THE NEW MODEM IS USB, ACCENT COMMUNICATIONS.

THANKS, AGAIN!!!!!!!!!
