System (BIOS) partition with Smart Start 6.xx

Hi! Is it possible to have the classic 35 MB system utilities partition installed on a Compaq server with the new Smart Start 6.00 or later CD or is it all CD and no graphical utils for Smart Start anymore? Regards, mousse-man

Can't delete Domain Controller Computer Account

Does the DC hold any FSMO roles. If yes, you need to seize them.

Removing 1 drive from an array

And does the expansion procedure work as well when the partition on that used-to-be-nondynamic disk was created before it was made dynamic? I was once tasked with the expansion of a logical disk on an EVA12000 SAN array. In the SAN appliance console, I assigned some additional diskspace...

5 character passwords in RH 8.0?

Basically, the problem is the Unix (not just RedHat) default is 6 chars min. I'd prefer if it were 8 so we have a few intrusions less because of doofus passwords.

    w2k server same legato hostid

To at least force NetWorker to change the host ID, stop and restart the Networker services. In theory, Networker uses the IP address to generate host ids. In the really old days, it used the MAC address of the network interface, but Legato got enlightened and changed this so in case your box...

Can the Task Scheduler be made to logon as a batch job only?

We solved the problem. We made that service account the AT service account, removed the service account from the local admin, and gave it the right to log on locally. Actually, if you schedule something with AT, it will log in as a batch only, but if you use Task Scheduler, it will logon...

    raid and system partition

As long as the RAID is hardware-based, Windows does not care if the system partition is on a RAID or a single hard disk. However, if you only have a software RAID (via W2k), you can't have your system partition on it.

Can the Task Scheduler be made to logon as a batch job only?

billieT, the problem is that the company IS security officer asked for this. I would love to have this service account have the local logon right. Now, is there a trick to tell Scheduled Tasks (on W2k) that the jobs have to be started in the same way the runas /netonly would do it? If...

Can the Task Scheduler be made to logon as a batch job only?

I have a small nagging problem. I need to run a load of batch jobs with a special account which is local admin on the server, but which as the user right "Deny logon locally" set to enable for this account. To allow this account to log on locally has been considered unsafe by our...

    DHCP database cleanup util

Hi, is there a utility that would verify every used DHCP lease, ping the IP of the machine, and if it doesn't respond withhin 5 seconds, kill the used DHCP lease so I can reclaim the IP? We have the problem that a lot of users don't know or don't want to shutdown their workstations correctly...

Killing child processes started by VBScript WScript.Run method

Hi! Is there a possibility to kill an instance of WScript.exe and then with this kill (like if I do via the task scheduler and tell it to run a certain task and kill it some time later) and at that kill, have all processes started in sync with the script (ie WScript.Run rumpel.exe,,true)? So...

"1611 CPU Fan Failure" bootup error

Have you tried to power up the machine with the panel off so you can see wether the fan is powering up? If it's not the case, something else is probably broken, like the 12V supply to a fan.

    NTLDR Missing After Auto Reboot

Looks to me like a virus or trojan problem, or something rotten with the harddisks/storage. But explore the virus route first.

    Manipulating/creating tasks in Task Scheduler

Hi! Been programming VBScript, and I need something with which I can create an entry or maybe even manipulate it. MicroSoft has a taskscheduler.exe archive, but I have not been able to make it schedule tasks when I want it to (it always schedules tasks at 12:00 AM, with a start date of...

    cant locate roaming profile !!

Profile path set correctly in account info? Click on the workstation ("My Computer") and check the properties - what does it say for user profiles? Roaming, Local? Try deleting your local profile and then log in again to see if the server finds the profile.

    Robocopy Syncronization

Works very well. Robocopy will test for file date and length, so if the content of the file has been changed, but not the length or the filedate, there could be problems. Use the /L option to compare two dirs.
