    RE: Connected to Earthlink Window

Click on 'Tools | Internet Options' go to the Connections tab. See if "Never dial a connection" has a check mark in it or not. If not put one there, click "Apply". Done. Sometimes this will not stop it dialing out, but for most folks it is as easy as that. Let us know if...

IE 6 on WindowsNT cipher strength 0bit

File: Advapi32.dll is a Advanced API call file library. I think it is installed with Internet Explorer as it is in its cab files. Win98 & IE 5.01 with 128 bit encryption has v4.80.1675. Win Me & IE 5.5 128 bit has v4.90.0.3000. Win 2000 Advanced Server IE 6: v5.0.2195.2867 Win 2000 Pro & IE 6...

IE 6 on WindowsNT cipher strength 0bit

Hi SilentBob78 Not much info to go on here, you being such a silent type and all but try upgrading your NT service pack to SP6a. If this is even a NT install that is? This sounds like is a version conflict between the signing tools and the Microsoft CryptoAPI. Microsoft Authenticode issue perhaps.

IE 6.0 "Amount Of Disk Space" Used

The faster your connection is, the smaller the TIF (Temporary Internet Files) folder can be. (IMHO) I have always suggested keeping this setting at no more than 40Mb. I keep my own at 30Mb, the senior tech at work suggests 40Mb. I have broadband however. On broadband 10, 20, 40Mb is plenty of...

How can I eliminate the second "history" window in IE 6.0?

Hi I think what you are referring to is part of AutoComplete. On the Menu bar click on 'Tools' then 'Internet Options'. Click on the 'Content' tab. In the 'Personal Information section click the 'AutoComplete' button. Remove the check marks from 'Web addresses', the other two as well if you...

    IE6 & News Groups

Short answer is no, internet explorer does not read newsgroups. MS's solution is to use Outlook Express for newsgroups, which I.M.H.O. sucks at the task. Of course you can read google groups and others with the browser but... Your better off with a dedicated news reader. There are several good...

    Tools >Internet Options 'Locked'

Odd getting that on a Win98 box, hummmm....... From the start button, go to 'Run', type in 'regedit' sans quotes. Back up your registry first! Also export any keys you modify, save them as type 'reg'. Modifying the registry can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your...

File download from IE5 open but nothing else happens

What with my low IQ and all, I get easily confused, I'm a little unclear on just what your doing here, are you saving web pages or downloading zip files, images, pdf files, etc or something else? Also, do you get a "Save As" Window? Do you use a proxy server or firewall? Are you...

    How to I get 5.5 or 6

"automatically detect settings" should only be selected if your ISP advises you too. My ISP (Cable connection) works just fine without proxies, i.e. 'Direct Connection to the Internet'. Everybody's ISP of course will differ. The default, and recommended by Microsoft is to let IE...

Chris222, what does "4 + 5" mean? If yer using Win95 don't install IE 6 as it will cause you nothing but troubles. A upgrade to 5.01 + Internet Tools would be fine though, or 5.5 + tools..
